Looking at a number of new motor options and getting the hood the correct width is job one. I have more options these days and will not allow the engine to be done unless it is correct.

I noticed that the F7A is being re-released with upgraded shell tooling, and it looks nice! Only question; the sample picture for the WM version doesnt seem to indicate that the planned window glazing will be included... Joe, do you know if this is the case?

    Brandon,

I have a set of the WM's here. Yes they include the window glazing. You have to install it yourself, but it is in the box. The revisions look very good!

Awesome! I agree, the detail looks very crisp from the photos I can find.

I just dropped the windows in and took this photo:

The windows are fun to put in... grrr.... but the results are great. It really is a nice departure from Grey's original F7.

Wow! That loco does look nice. I might be wrong, but it looks like the nose has a different curvature to it that the old one, on top of the better details like the horns and such.

Joe you are right. I am working on an article comparing the original F7 to the new shells. The changes are dramatic. The nose has been retooled extensively. The top headlight is pulled in closer to the shell. The old light stuck out quite far. The window glazing alone makes a huge difference. It really polishes off the look of the locomotive.

I can confirm it is the same F7 under the hood. Kudos to MTL on this upgrade. It is nicely done.

Not the same under then hood. MTL tweaked the gearing to 'greatly' reduce the classic wobble in many. Even better running :)

Did they improve power pick-up as well? Helping the loco to have even better low-speed caracteristics?

Does anyone know if the older F7A and F7B shells will fit on the 'new' mechanisms? Thanks for the help.

The chassis has not change in physical size so old A shells should fit the current mechanism. However all B shells produced up to this month unless modified by some one will not fit until over any version of the powered chassis. They only fit on the dummy chassis.

    cheers Garth

We could use an MP15AC in N Scale and Z Scale.

F7s are great. I donĀ“t care if they do make noise. Since chassis will be around for a while, be nice if some FTs, F3s, and perhaps F7s with single headlights were made. I know it costs billions to design a new engine, but it would only be the shell.

So, will the window glazing for the A & B units fit into the older shells without any modification? Is the glazing available from Micro-Trains to purchase? Thanks for the help.
