Hi there my name is Dave, 68 years of age and been involved on and off with model railways since I was 12, back full time since 2005. I am building a freelance N scale layout using the Penn Central RR for locomotion, I am not a fanatic on things being exact which can be quite difficult when you live several thousand miles from the area you are interested in, put bluntly I model for enjoyment but like my layouts to resemble something real. I grew up with British steam but have become a fanatic on US railroads in particular the PRR, NYC, Penn Cental, Conrail and Norfolk Southern, you may have guessed by now that my main interest is the North Eastern USA. I hope to visit the US next year and spend a few days at the Station Inn at Cresson PA so I can get an eyefull of those great NS trains. I am not that smart when it comes to model railroading and enjoy learning from more advanced modelers but I go hope to become an active member of the forum. I have read the introductory message sent by email so thank you for that. All The Best Dave
Welcome to our little group, Dave. For what its worth, what you're describing I've heard called proto-freelancing. Using existing prototypes but with a (personally decided) degree of free-lancing. And don't put yourself down - smart is in all of us, the trick is getting the practice and experience. Enjoy!
Hi Dave, Welcome aboard. We all are happy to have you join our conversations. I understand that you believe you will gain from us, but please understand that we will gain an equal amount from you due to your different perspective and background of British Steam.
Gidday Dave, it's becoming an Aussie invasion, even though it sounds like you're a Pom (s'alright, I'm an ex Kiwi and that's "almost" as bad). Just recently joined myself. Where's the City of Redlands, googled it and only came up with something near Albury and Wagga Wagga NSW. Or is it the bayside suburb of brissy?
Hi There Toot, You are right Redlands is a bayside area South of Brizzy, it was a Shire up until a couple of years ago then it became a City, I always think the area between Coolangatta and Noosa is just on big City, not much bush left.
G'day Dave...From one Aussie to another...and similar in the fascination with American rail ...wish ours ran as well as it does in the USA.. I do ATSF/BNSF (trying to anyway)...and have made the move to DCC from analog..about 6 months ago..wiring not up to scratch yet in regard to power switches but working on it...Get all my stuff online through two outlets in Bundaberg...Little Caboose and Bonzy69 Trains..are you familiar with either or both..Tassie model shops are way too expensive...ridiculous actually... Give me a corro back sometime..cheers tigers1960 (Rod)..
