Well I did a baaaaad thing... LOL Here's a pic of a couple cars that I shortened. They are about 60 footers now, and look much better on the layout curves. ( 13 " radius ) . I'll bet they aren't collectable anymore .:uhoh: .....Mike

A number of railroads had 60' cars for commuter or branch line work. I live at the end of the line for the NYC Catskill Mountain Branch. The NYC used sixty footers for this hilly branch with multiple sharp curves. Wish we could get some in N scale. The Bachmann cars are kind of old. Enjoy yours.

Well you can join me in my punishment cave out back since I shortened some old Lima and Rivarrossi cars a while back by taking about 10 to 12 feet out of the middle of them. Its too bad that Bmann only made three versions of the short 65 foot passenger car. And as previously stated a number of roads had cars that short including the western roads I model. And a short 8 or 10 car consist looks good behind a Pacific or Ten Wheeler.

As soon as you take the factory MTL air out of them, they are no longer collectables as far as the NSC(E) is concerned. LOL

I just had to say it!

I bet you let out the "factory air" when you opened the boxes to do your cut-downs, too.

I did repaint the roof of the last car though, The grimy black just didn't look right.......Mike

I never cut one down before ... but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once... how does one go about shortening a car ? is there a tutorial for us that have never attempted this before ? please point the way as I have two passenger cars (RivaRossi) I would like to cut down ..both are B&O , one observation and one business coach ? ( Margaret Corbin).

I really didn't have any real plan when I started. I just totally disassambeled the cars, you will end up with a roof, interior, window glass, car body, metal weight, and the underframe. I just picked a spot on the body where the cut wouldn't stick out too much and cut about an inch to an inch and a half out. Leave youreself enough material to sand the edges square. Cut the roof and underframe in a different location so that when you glue the pieces back together they will form a stronger bond. I cut the weight and interior to fit, and I used super glue to re assamble the pieces. HTH.....Mike

Besides the two WOT baggage cars (SOU) I have several Microtrains 50' troop sleeper cars and kitchen cars (C&O and WM). They may not be "official" passenger cars but they'll do.
