Have any groups thought of making a small DCC layout for Big Bang Theory? It could be titled Sheldor.
The logistics wouldnt be worth it...unless the shows producers commisioned someone to do it. If the producers wanna come on TB and discuss it...I am sure someone would get behind it. I dont think anyone would make such a layout first and then want the headache of trying to pitch it to the show. JMHO...YMMV.
While I'm not a major fan of the TV show... only seen about a dozen episodes... the show is entertaining and may give the N scale model railroad hobby a little boost. OTOH... the cast members don't seem to be the model railroading 'types'... in other words... not all geeky twenty-somethings are model railroaders. I doubt the producers of the show would involve the layout in the show more than 'perhaps' one episode... the rest of the time it would be lost in the background (if not completely off the set). BTW... I'm a middle-aged person... and the show does have some entertainment value for me, though, it probably is more suited for the twenty-something to forty-something crowd.
Well, IIRC, the last time we saw Sheldon doing anything with a model train, it was putting an N-scale loco into his mouth. I, too, doubt they would ever do much more with a layout than use it as a joke; but I bet if Sheldon ever decided to visit one of the SoCal clubs or shows, that might make for a fun episode.
I doubt it would fly very far... Product placement is expensive. Give them enough money and they'll put anything on the air.
the show is pretty funny. Stupid but funny. I know N scale was highlighted in at least 1 episode and possibly two. Sheldon, collects trains, HO. But then stumbled upon N and stated something to the effect that he could get more railroad out of Nscale because it was so small. That may have been the same episode he put the train in his mouth. As far as the layout, it might be fun for someone to make with lots of reference to Star Trek, Star wars and comic books, but i wouldnt count on it getting highlighted on the show.
I love the show, (only a thirtysomething for a few more days) and any exposure model railroading can get on it would pay huge dividends for our hobby. It wouldn't surprise me if they keep that storyline hanging around and maybe develop it in later seasons once the writers need some filler. I would be shocked if we don't see a BBT trainset from Bachmann soon.
I love BBT too. Funniest show I've ever seen. My DVR records every show on any network. Sounds like a good idea. Charlie
They have "featured" model trains. Here is the transcript: http://bigbangtrans.wordpress.com/series-5-episode-03-the-pulled-groin-extrapolation/
Well... if they can keep the cast from putting the N scale trains in their mouths... perhap parents will not be scared away from buying N scale for kids and have a phoebia about them being swallowed. The transcript was interesting... and I didn't see this show. The continuity of model trains in general was not apparently a real focus... and looked more like 'filler'. I doubt it's going anywhere beyond a few words... which more often ridicule the hobby than promote it.
If there's gonna be a layout on the show, it'll probably be be made by The Train Shack in Burbank, CA. They've done commissioned layouts for TV and film projects before. And the Warner Bros. studios, where BBT is filmed, is literally down the street from the hobby shop.
