George, am I mistaking ? I am under the impression you are using your PR3 in standalone programmer mode. If so ignore all posts pertaining to Loconet and the PR3. If I am wrong and your PR3 is connected to Loconet then ignore all my posts.

    George,

I went back to your initial post and don't see anything mentioned about what operating system your pc is running on. I don't believe that anyone else has mentioned this either. From what I have read there is, or was, a problem with the PR3 running on Win7. I found a thread that you may want to look up. It is
"Got a PR3 working with Win7". It was posted on 4/26/12, 2:45pm by delhi&wetsern. It iis in the DCC section page #2. He has a link to his solution: Click on the "PR3 & Win 7" button on http://www.delhiandwestern.ca/.

Hope this may shed some light and be of help.

    Carl

    Houston...We have lift off !!! :)

David was kind enough to PM his phone #. He walked me thru reinstalling the drivers...well actually installing them...on Windows 7 since there really is no install exe on the disk. As someone mentioned above...I had to point the install to the right file on the disk. Which i had no idea where to even look !! David was a saint and very patient with me and we got it working Woooooooohhhhhhhoooooooooo!!!

I have been resetting all locos to their manufacturer default settings...for now. I have 4 locos that now run...YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!! I am gonna have some breakfast....a cup of coffee...and a smoke...AND SMILE !!! :)

You guys are the greatest...TB has the niceest...friendlist people ...anywhere...I swear

    Once again

    Thnxs ALL !!! :)

    As a side note:

Tis PR3 is in my room connected to my PC in here. I want the abilty to come in here and program the decoders. The PR3 is wired to one stick of unitrack. It all safely tucks into one of the desk drawers when not being used. I didnt want the possibilty of not flipping a switch for programming on a siding or something else being fubar out on the layout when programing...and endig up reprogramming every loco on the tracks...YIKES !!

    Safer...less hassle...less headaches...just plain easier in here...JMO

    Thnxs :)

    Just an observation:

Dontcha think its time Digitrax made an autorun exe file to install their PR3 on Windows 7 64 bit? I mean comeon...Windoze 7 has been out for how many years now ?? Windoze 8 is on the near horizon. They have Windoze 2000...Windoze Vista...and even Windoze XP on that disk for heavens sake !!! I even went to Doigitrax website....NO Windows 7 files anywhere I could find to download....LOL.

And people call me a dinosaur....roflmao

    George,

I do not think they have the manpower or the talent to do full blown Windows development along with Apple and Linux. All these operating systems allow the reading of a config file to properly setup device drivers.

Digitrax is not a software cie, drivers are developped by a third party. However I agree with George, Digitrax should be clear on their Web site that the Vista driver will also work on Windows7 64bits.

Most drivers for any windows product will work on any newer windows platform. Windows plans the backwards compatibility. Didn't know that the PR3 could be used standalone, might get one, but right now I'm using the locobuffer usb with my superchief set.

Seems like a simple and easily fix. Wouldnt take em much to redo their webpage to add that right next to the Vista 64 bit download.

    Hi George,

I know how you feel. I bought a PR3 as well as a brand new HP Netbook computer solely to use as a portable stand alone programmer at train shows when my HO module club sets up it's layout. This represented an outlay of almost $400 for the PR3 and the netbook combo, which for me is a major outlay of cash. After three month's of failure at trying to get the PR3 to work as advertised (and non-support from Digitrax), I gave up and got a SPROG II interface, which set up easily using JMRI's DecoderPro software. While I was able to get the PR3 to work with my 7 year old Mac desktop and DecoderPro, neither of which are supported by Digitrax, it certainly wasn't a portable solution! The only support I received from Digitrax was an offer to replace the original PR3 with a brand new unit, which I accepted, in spite of knowing that there was nothing defective with the hardware, it was the Digitrax "SoundLoader" software program that was at fault. I'm a long-time Digitrax user, having bought my first Digitrax Challenger system in the summer of 1993. To say I was discouraged by Digitrax is an understatement!

The SPROG II does everything I wanted the PR3 to do, plus it also has the virtual throttle, which allows test running freshly programmed locos on the program track, without having to put them on the layout. I don't think the PR3 allows this, even with the JMRI software. This is a great advantage for me, since it means I don't have to interrupt the club layout at a show to program and test a locomotive. The SPROG won't manipulate sound files on Digitrax Sound Decoders, but after my experience with the PR3, I won't be buying any Digitrax sound decoders. In fact, the only Digitrax decoders I might buy would be a "Plug & Play decoder" for a specific locomotive that I cannot get from any other manufacturer. While my HO module club still uses Digitrax, for my personal use I have switched to a LENZ system 100. It's a shame, because I was considering a Zephyr until I had the problem with the PR3.

Glad you got your PR3 working, but if the SPROG sounds like a better fit, check out <www.sprog.us.com> .

I just sent Digitrax a message on their contact page...

How about changing your downloads page so people know the XP, Vista drivers for the PR3 will also work on Windows 7 64 bit

    George,

They can't say that it is Windows 7 compatible unless it has been thoroughly tested and certified by Microsoft. That comes at an expense to the applicant.

Hello all, DCC added a new dimension to model railroading. I enjoy running my trains and found the Bachmann EZ Command system although limited, meets my needs. It's a simple plug and play system. Hope it works out for you and when you feel fustrsted just walk away and take a break.

One of the great things about DCC is you can run opposing trains on the same track. One of the bad things about DCC is you can run opposing trains on the same track...
