I received my decoder (DZ123Z0) today and installed it in my GP30. Installation was straight forward and it runs perfectly!

I have not ordered any yet because nobody lists them as in stock, just special order.

I hoped that people would update their sites to show when the actually are in stock, but it appears people don't like to update web sites in a timely manner.

I found only one place that them in stock. They have real time inventory online and there were 5 in stock when I ordered. I checked the other day and they were out of stock.

I finally used up my variety of decoders and went surfing for more. Just to let you know, not many have the DZ1230Z0 for the AZL products. While many websites from the searches list them, they do not stock (website either says 'special order', doesnt even show ability for in/out of stock so I called and got same 'we order them') or, not in stock (0 in stock). Tuesday, I bought the 4 that woo woo woo (a.k.a. woo woo woo ¤¤¤¤¤) had. Steve's Depot was one site that showed all 4 flavors of the new Digitrax decoders. However, no in/out of stock indicator so I called. He has quite a few of all currently (Wednesday morning). BTW: he said was got the notice about the new Marklin versions and ordered them just to see. Low in behold, sold out in days. Reordered, same ! So there must be a lot Märklin diesel folks ready to run DCC.

The reason I ended up at Steve's Depot and posting this like many of the Z retailers, they don't carry the decoders. Norm does carry the Digitrax and Anthony is closed til Jan 6. I'd like them a bit earlier for all of the new AZL locos I just bought up.

Rob: You'll need to take a new photo of the UP yard this year for the subscription picture :)

    Jeff.
Terry shows two on his site. Do I NEED to mention his TRAINS site?

Jeff you have my attention! I can't wait to see the yard and your new inventory. I bet it is a sea of armor yellow. :)

Do these decoders also offer sound? I'm wondering how we'd combine DCC control with sound for our AZL locos. Thanks.

Are these new DIgitrax decoders drop in installs?

Not quite, you have to file down the two solder pads to fit, but I have to say its the closest drop in.

Or, if you know how to solder, you can use a solder-sucker to remove most all of it. It leaves just enough. Or, you can file a small taper on the post gaps BUT you need to have the smaller than normal jeweler's files. ALWAYS test each method, a bit a time.

Do NOT use solder removal braid ! It takes too much heat and can lift the PC board traces.

It really only taks a bit of filing or solder removal. None of the DCC boads for any loco go in easy. But its not really that bad or hard todo it. Both Digitrax and TCS have instructions and pix on their sites. TCS's pictures are extremely clear.

Sure is *MUCH* better than the seval dozen I have wired in, many with a lot of grinding and cutting.

just installed 7 of them in the AZL GP30's and 38's. Simple solder-suck and all went in with ease, fit well (snug connection) and worked properly first time.
