I'd agree... according to te legend Paul described, it would appear the bottom part of the 'as designed' stack is part of the one piece die cast long hood...all the pics I have of the ATSF prototype units have a tall, straight stack, rectangular with curved edges (racetrack) cross section...modifying this for ATSF, it would appear to be necessary to grind the die cast pyramidal base off of the hood...ouch! Respectfully, Bruce
Let's see Vaughn needs 2 ATSF & 2 SP; Carrizozo needs 2 SP; Tucumcari needs 2 SP & 2 RI; Ft Sumner needs 2 ATSF; Mountainair needs 1 ATSF; Moriarty needs 1 ATSF; Dawson needs 1 SP, 1 RI and two for the mine.
Since my road had 9 of them and at least 8 made it to the BN merger I guess I could spring for a couple in dark green (Empire Builder Green) please.
FWIW guys, these are sure to be good runners; if they don't produce undec's you could always get one of the fine 3D-printed shells Matt makes & use the Atlas Mechanism! (lots of room for weight in the cab!)....
1) Undecs will be offered. 2) The myriad roadname requests have been noted and passed along to those that make these decisions. 3) I don't believe a rectangular stack version is in the works. Because of the shapes that for the stack, it is necessary to mold it in 2 parts in order to get all of the details properly formed, which is why the angled base is part of the body, and the cylindrical stack portion is separate.
B&M Minuteman would get my money: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2661784 I would love to see a B&M S2 in the black switcher scheme as well, but Minuteman would probably sell better.
Paul, Please add the CB&Q to that list. The Burlington Route had nine S2s (9300-9308). I'm good for at least two. Let me know if you need prototype photos. Andy Tetsu Uma
Folks, before we all bombard Atlas with our favorite road request, let's reflect on the fact that, according to this list, http://thedieselshop.us/Alco_S2.HTML the S2 was owned by EVERY CLASS 1 railroad, and dozens of terminal and switching roads - 112 railroads in all (not counting Canadian roads, which also had them, or multiple paint schemes for a single road). I'm sure Atlas knows this and will be running S2 road names and paint schemes for us all sooner or later. (but, if they could move the NKP up on the list, I'd sure be happy about that <grin>). John C.
Paul, a thought- instead of simply offering "UNDEC" models, how about a couple colors of prepainted offerings? I mean, many many of the S2's roadnames were simply a black loco.... so a prepainted black loco would be of assist to quite a few folks whose roadnames may not be painted, but are willing to decal 'em up.... I am sure other colors would help as well. Cheers!
ALCo S2 owners list That's the web page Cory Rothlisberger from Atlas copied in this Railwire post: http://www.therailwire.net/forum/in...be78fadf69eb3&topic=26850.msg273721#msg273721 As far as Class 1s, it's an incomplete list and contains misspellings. Two of which were owners of S2s that would be near the top of my wishlist, Minneapolis, St Paul & Sault Ste Marie and Truax-Traer Coal. I'd take a dozen if they were released undecorated in shiny black plastic.
I'll take an undec., since the WP "pumpkin" scheme will be easy to paint. Thank you! Atlas, my VO-1000 needed an ALCO friend!
I just hope they do some big eastern roads. Put down for at least 2 each for C&O, NKP AND WAB and possibly PRR.:teeth::teeth:
CB&Q If you are going to do than be sure to do it right!!!! GN, NP, & SP&S would also be fine! AT&SF zebra.
