    hello N scalers,

i want to start a small Nn3 layout.
    it will be 60x90 cm.
i made it in anyrail, don't know if it will be the final design but i thought i put it out there anyway.
i will use Rokuhan sectional Z-track.

the layout will contain a lumbermill/yard and a small logging camp in the mountains.

I like the plan Robert. One thing I would do though is extend the passing siding on the mtn a little bit. It appears that there is only room for about 2 cars at max. Maybe bringing the lower switch downgrade to just before the switch for the reload. I would also bring another siding off the other side of the siding to access logs on the hill side on the opposite side of the tracks.

I'm working on another version of this plan.(i'll upload a picture when i've finished it.

i will use some shays, small critters, porters and maybe a 2-4-0.
    I won't use anything big

In Nn3 I think only the 2-6-0 is available? I may be mistaken. I have an Nn3 2-6-0 and Climax, and Shay in N scale. I don't know if the latter two can be converted to run on Z scale track. Best you do some research if you can. Good luck, Jim

RLW(Republic Locomotive Works)has 2 and 3 truck shay kits in Nn3. also they offer a number of other locomotive kits using the marklin mech.

I have the Microtrains 2-6-0 and have built two 2-8-2s from kits. I also converted the Con Cor Galloping Goose to Nn3. Still have not began building my layout. I have a test loop that I run my trains on. Keep us updated on the progress of your layout. I need inspiration to get going on my own.

i will keep you updated, sunday is one of the biggest train shows of the year in Holland and there is always many Z scale items so i hope i can find some locos and some pieces of track to try them out.

i'm still working on the layout plan, i've improved this one and made another shelf design.
i'll upload some pictures when they're ready.

So i've worked on the plan and improved it a little, here s the design:
    Nn3 lumber layout 1.jpg
i've made the runaround on the mountain a little longer and improved the incline a bit.

I've also made an other shelf design of this layout:
    Nn3 lumber layout lang.jpg
It's nearly the same only on the top of the mountain is nog a larger logging site.

    Hi there.

According to the above trackplans, looks like Robbert plans to use R=127 mm curve radius Rokuhan turnouts.

As a Zscaler beeing in the opposite range regarding curve radii I've no experience with such tight curves, but one has to be aware that Marklin, Microtrains and AZL's chassis primarily used for Nn3 motive power kitbashing/scratchbuilding are not designed for such low radii.

I'm not aware of Marklin's, as I don't use their stuff. Its sectional track's smallest curve radius is 145 mm, that means that some of their rolling stock works on it. I guess their 0-6-0 saddletank switcher is OK on it but I'm not sure for smaller radii.

On the opposite MTL's and AZL's stuff is designed for R=195 mm minimum radius.

So I'm not sure this could work with these Rokuhan turnouts. One has to take care prior to investing for example into expensive Republic Locomotive Works' or Aspenmodels' kits.

    My two cents,

    Dom

Thank you for your information Dom.
Tomorow i'm going to buy a Marklin chassis and some flex track to try it's minimum radius.
If it turns out to be bigger then 127mm i'll have to redesign my layout, so let's hope it works out.

    Thanks for your feedback everyone!
