My name is Daniel and i am new to the awesome train world. I have experience diorama building but am lost at sea when it comes to railroad building. I have decided that HO scale is whats right for me. I have built a 8'x4' table and my dilemmas are, if i went with Kato track: 1. Is that a good track? 2. Which sections of track are supposed to have leads going into the power supply?
Welcome aboard Daniel. No matter HO or N scale Kato makes about the best Track out there. Ease of use and wears like Iron; you can also change your mind and rework your layout without hassle. I use it on my N scale track wish I had gone with it on HO also. Where your track feeds go depends on if you plan to go with DC or DCC. The opinions will vary but I ran DC to begin with and only had one power lead to a Power pack then when I went over to DCC I ran a Track feed every 4' to assure good power throughout the layout. I'm sure you will have many hours of fun in your new hobby, and you've found a nice friendly place with well informed folks to help. Look forward to seeing your progress. Glen
Awesome, thank you so much for the nudge in the right direction. How many power packs would i need for a DCC setup. I have a friend who knows linux like a second language so we might get into digitrax stuff but that is a while coming yet. So that is why i'm leaning towards DCC.
Hi Danimall, Welcome to the TrainBoard, glad to have you on board. I can't help you because I've either laid my own track or used 36" flex. Also I've been DC since 1947, so can't afford to change to DCC now, even though it looks like a great way to control trains.
I want to say thank you all for being so welcoming. Now that i see how warm the enviroment is for this hobby i can't wait to interact with ya'll more.
