Wow!! An AC4400CW that isn't brass. Now that is a model sorely needed in N scale. Hopefully the livery will be the same as that in HO scale ( HO AC4400 link ). They are offering the CP version in both the golden beaver scheme and two flag scheme.

I'm impressed with the coal cars. Almost enough to start a unit train (tie-in with another thread here?)

SD38-2s in HO, eh? I have a lonely SW1500 in Frisco colors that needs a playmate in the yard.... and Frisco's SD38-2s were purchased just for that very chore (2 for Cherokee Yard in Tulsa, 2 in Tennessee Yard in Memphis, TN).

Those SD-38s done up in the EJ&E are just what I'm looking for. Only problem is there in HO and I'm in N. Just my luck, I've been waiting for these in my dreams and they come out in the wrong scale. I wonder what the chances are of kato doing the same in N-Scale
    in the near future?

SWEET!!! When do the AC4400CW's go on reserve in N scale??!! That's what I want to know!!

And they come with golden white LED's!! I'm gonna have to change the lights on all of my other locos.

My wife thinks my coal train power should be complete.I have explained that I don't have any BN SD70mac's yet though. The only thing she sees is the 26 BNSF SD70mac's I have. But I have explained that the 2 are different and I will need more.Espacially since the Vomit Bonnett is comming out.

That BN (finally, sigh) SD70MAC sounds good, past my era, but I may bend the rules a bit to fit a pair in.....
    Would a SD40 mech fit the SD38-2???

EMD introduced the SD38/SD40 line in 1969 and the two models used the same frame. The -2 line (SD38-2,SD40-2, etc.) was introduced in 1974 and once again EMD used the same frame for the SD38-2/SD40-2...however, this frame was four or five feet longer than the one used for the SD38/SD40, so the answer would be that a SD40 mechanism will not work under a SD38-2.

(Hoping that KATO adds McCloud River #39 to the roadnames available on the SD38-2)

So the SD40-2 frame will fit a 38-2. Okie dokie. BN had a few, I think, rebuilt....

Thanks to the BN Photo Archive, BN inherited 4 SD38-2's from Frisco, and then rebuilt them into SD38P's after '93. It seems that SLSF 297 was never rebuilt, but has no retirement info, either... Could there be a 66' vintage original SD38-2 still plying the rails????

    Oops...EMD introduced the -38/-40 series in 1966, not 1969...

Other models released in the 1966 line were the SD45, F/FP45, SW1500, GP/SD39, and maybe one or two others.
