Anyone saw this? Is it finally the end of those overprice Marklin American steam engines on Ebay? This one is suppose to sell around $220......wohoo! Ben
It is from Marklin 2013 new product list. So by default this is a new steam engine available from Marklin, ok the frame is old history, but beside buying those on Ebay, none were available anymore from Marklin, unless I am mistaken.
It looks like the casey Jones steammer. Not too shabby. If this product at that price came out 2 years ago, I'd order two. However, I will probably order one after I get my mikado(s).
I just looked it up, and it does look like the Casey Jones / Diamond Special locomotive. Since I have 3 of the unopened Diamond Special sets in my junk box, will take a pass, waiting for the AZL Mikado's too!
The Casey Jones has a brass shell, the Diamond Special and this new one zinc pressure casting. So keep your Casey Jones, THEY are special.
Go figure its NYC&HRRR loco and passenger cars! Where were these when I was modeling the NYC&HRRR in Z years ago?! John
Meh. Just another trip back to the well. Now, this is something to cheer about: assuming the promotional image is accurate, Märklin is finally, finally ditching their über-hokey one-piece siderod/valve gear design that they've used on virtually every steamer they've released to date, and making fully-articulated valve gear for the re-release of their (former "Insider" blue) GVB class Gt 2x4/4. Pricey? You bet. Worth it? I think so, since I'm looking at it as source material for an Nn3 articulated. Even better, the wheels are black, instead of red, saving the trouble of painting them.
David that valve gear looks remarkably similar to the etch stainless stuff produce by West model and sold through Aspen Models for their upgrade kits for 2-8-2 and other steam engines plus their K27 and K28 Nn3 brass kit models. really a step in the right direction
They had it on the 88010, wish they made more of them http://www.1zu220-shop.de/images/bilder/maerklin/ma-88010/ma-88010-3.jpg http://www.ajckids.com/products/Marklin/88010 The Westmodel is very different from this
Waited months to get Maerklin engine Dcc'd, It worked for about 30 seconds really well. Then died. Never again.
Märklin photohops in the track in (I imagine most if not all of) their product shots. Look at how the track overlaps the wheels in this one: http://www.maerklin.de/produkte/frontend/image.php?nr=88290&picname=88290.jpg and the really screwy perspective of this one: http://www.maerklin.de/produkte/frontend/image.php?nr=88812&picname=88812.jpg
