my son called me from new hampshire & said the MTH 2-8-2 that i sent up to him was running on the layout & it was going upgrade when it bucked & died , he went over to look at it & it was glowing from the firebox :startled: well he realized it was on fire !!!!!!!!:headspin: he ran over removed it from the track & put out the fire, wow weird thing is , it still runs & reponds to DCS commands but he is going to open it up & check things out later , ahhh gotta love MTH its always something lol
Sure it's not a live steamer? Seriously, if it still runs it might have been just insulation burning. A temporary short would do that, and it would be cleared during the mad dash to put out the fire. There might have been some wire already bared somewhere and that caused the fire, though the proof would likely have been lost in the barbecue. It could also have been a partial derailment and something shorted through the frame - I've fried some wires in two locos that way.
