We use to go frequently to Michigan Beach as kids, had an uncle who was a lifeguard there. Learned to swim there, or basically the lifeguard took you out in a rowboat and threw you overboard. I remember the spur track that went through the parking lot, they use to announce over the loud speaker that everyone had to move their cars so the switcher could get through.
Getting back on subject, I'll probably pick up a couple of tha Atlas J GP38's when they come out. Just need to find a couple more of those weedcutter plows. Hah!! Run8, how are those SD38 shells quality wise?

I was just thinking... If you plan on getting the Atlas GP38-2s, you might want to contact them and see if they can give you the name of the paint they'll be using. That way you might be able to match them.

So is Atlas supposed to be coming out with these locos? If so do you have a link? I too would like a few of those.

Well I guess I should have googled before I posted. Found them at one site taking reserve orders. I tried to delete this post but can't seem to find the delete button. :-(

The funny thing about the Atlas release, is that they aren't including the number that is by far, the most well known GP they had... 703. 703 was with the RR far longer than any of the others. Not great research on their part.

rrunty, these shells are better than I thought they would be. They are pre-drilled for BLMA grabs ( which are included !!!) They seem like they might be brittle, so I will be drilling other holes very slowly. They also come with BLMA fan screens. I haven't test fitted anything yet, but if they are a little off, a pot of hot water should do the trick for adjustment. If you order some of these, read the options carefully. My shells for BN are different from the EJ&E. Be sure to mention what drive you using. Mark will tell you all the required surgery to make these work. I'm using Kato "Early" chassis, so it will be a direct replacement. I also got some high noses for a N&W SD45 project. The same quality and many different options !!! The best nose bells I've ever seen in N !!! As for the Michigan Beach train, I've heard divers say they have seen it. I've also been told if the sun is right, you can see it from I-80 bridge !!!

    Have fun making the J.

I hope you've been keeping up with what CN is doing to East Joliet.. Not very pretty from a historical standpoint.

CNW, I wouldn't call it "keeping up", but I see what their doing. I live less than a mile from the yard. Another of the large buildings came down last week. The old offices will be next. Once they are gone, that whole area will be ANOTHER container yard !!! I'm very lucky to have a lot of memories of the "old yard".

HEY !!! I'm back, and have all 5 locomotives now. I would like to start with the Mark4 shells, adding some details while stripping paint from the others. Wanna' do lift rings first, but the best source for location of the holes is the "SD38-3 Project". I feel I can trust that to be accurate. Figured I better come back and ask "The Wizards" before I start drilling. I don't have extra shells, so if I screw it up the only remedy is the 3# sledge !!!
