question about glue desolver

    ok ihave an athearn big boy & the cab hatch is glued closed ,what can i use to release the glue around the hatch so i can open it up??

    If it's styrene plastic that was properly glued with styrene glue, I don't think you'll have much luck. Styrene glues work by softening the plastic so that the two parts become welded together in a chemical reaction. I've heard that putting the glued parts in a freezer will make the glue joint brittle and may allow you to break the joint without breaking the plastic parts. I've never tried it.

    If the glue is CA, then CA debonder should work. CA does not "weld" in the same way as plastic glue.

    I've done this with CA, and it worked. Have not tried it for other cements.

    ok guys now i need a way to tell the girlfriend she needs to take the food outta the freezer to make room for my big boy :rolleyes:

    There are some plastics that acetone will not harm, and there are others that it will eat up in a new york second. Unless you're willing to risk destroying your project, I wouldn't recommend testing to find out which plastic you have.
