I do not enjoy putting large decals on anything, how did you manage to get one that big on the car without tearing it? Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191
Well, I wouldn't say I enjoyed it, but I enjoy the result! It took a long time to get it right, and loads of Micro Set to keep it from settling down while I adjusted it. I did one side on one day and then the other side a few days later. I just took my time with each of them and made all the adjustments as small as possible. The first one did begin to tear, but I caught it very early on and was able to keep it from tearing all the way through. Once it was all lined up and then dulcoted, you can't tell it tore. Actually, I do enjoy detailing and decaling equipment. The challenge of that giant flag decal was what first caught my attention. In the future I will avoid decals that big though, it was pretty tricky to work with.
I acquired this box car a long time ago from a now deceased friend, apart from the weathing and dull coat it is how it came to me. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191
I only have a couple of freelanced freightcars, I need to find a way of making custom decals. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191
The box car data are decals from Walthers. All of the other lettering was done letter by letter. The Gallatin Canyon & Western freight cars were done with custom decals we got over 20 years ago, also using the box car date decals.
This is an Eel River Box Car Kit of the 62' PC&F RBL that was primarily used for the transport of Coors Beer from Golden, CO to various locations about the country. I built the kit including all the underframe piping and rodding, painted it with White Floquil Paint and lettered with Oddballs Decals, most MP cars were Boxcar Red with White Lettering although a few were painted White with Boxcar Red lettering. I appreciate all the custom work and enjoy seeing the private road names. Here are some pictures of some kit-bashing going on. I really should just throw the extra stuff away once in a while, drives my lovely wife nuts with all the little used, good for nothing things I hang on to. I am currently focused on modeling the Frisco and QA&P (Quanah Acme & Pacific) like they were never part of the BN, just my little twist on things I guess. The boom Tender is made from a few different kinds of mfgrs cars, the crane is Tichy, the flat bottom gons are the leftover ends from some Athearn kits-bash projects from years ago. Thanks for looking
There are some fantastic Private Road models here! This is my official first post here... I'm an 'ol Fart, in the hobby, since 1975! I freelance the Class 2 Pacific Belt RR, in the late 70's, in the Pacific Northwest. Here's a grain loading box, started as an Athearn BB. I replaced some details, left others. I painted it with Tru-Color paints, an acetone based paint. IMHO, it coats WAY thinner than lacquer, and especially thinner than enamel. I've got most of the decals done. Waiting for reporting marks, and the Herald is being made. The FIRST Herald the PBRR has had, in 36 years of existence!!! Glad to be here, and can't believe it took SO long to find!!!! I've been on several other forums - might find a friend or two here!!
Welcome aboard! Good looking car, will be interested seeing it with herald applied Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Thanks Alan! I'm pretty excited to see it too!! (A friend, a graphic designer, is making them. He's dropping off the first mockups tomorrow!)
Welcome! My freelance Montana Central is still waiting for a herald... Good to see another modeler doing the same area and era as me Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191
