Hello, I got a newer version Walthers N C-Liner loco. The instructions say DCC conversion easy - replace PC board, but all the searches on TCS and Google show only the old Life-Like version that has no PC boards. Has anyone done one of these, if so - what board was used?

    Hi

I have not done so, however I fitted a MRC 1660 decoder to an early LL C-Liner. I think the MRC 1660 might be the one you want. it would be worth checking it out.

Walthers plays fast and loose in N scale with the term DCC ready, c.f. the Walthers/LL GP38-2, which was supposed to be easily converted with a clip fit drop in board, only nobody ever actually made the board, and Walthers made all sorts of excuses about how that part of the project got dropped when they bought LL but they didn't bother removing that wording from their literature or packaging. I learned a lesson then, and that is to not trust what Walthers says about its N scale product DCC compatibility until I have had it verified elsewhere.

That being said, I really like my two C-liners. If I remember correctly I did an installation much like the one linked below but used DZ123 or DZ125 decoders.

According to Digitrax - the DN163MO is the board (possibly) - will advise if I try it. Above is a picture - its a small board, with the 'hangy-down' tabs for each side contacts.
