Here we go! Tonight I finished the track laying on my first N scale layout. It just a 36"x 84" loop that represents late 70s Cape Girardeau, MO riverfront (highly compressed if course) on one side and the other side will be the modern day Union Pacific as it passes my house at Wolf Lake,IL which has some BNSFF traffic as well. No switches because this is strictly a train watching layout to help me get my diesel fix.
I used 2" foam insulation board as a base and used cork roadbed and Atlas code 55 flex. I soldered the joints and feeder wires.

Congratulations on your driving in that Golden Spike! It might just be s simple loop, but maybe some day... Meanwhile, just have fun!

Thanks, guys. The Frisco loco by Kato was an e-bay find and being a Frisco fan I just had to have it. I have an HO layout depicting a Frisco branchline during 1915-1925ish but now I'll have two layouts, three eras and two scales to keep me busy. It's challenging to switch back and forth between scales but very fun! Next I will add ballast.

Yes that flex track is smooth as silk especially with the joiners soldered and smoothed. My Athearn/Roundhouse 4-4-0 also runs like a top on the track work. It's smoother than my HO layout!
