If memory serves me correctly, the Gorre & Daphetid was totally destroyed in a house fire shortly after John Allen died.
A few items survived, whether they were removed from the home prior to the fire, I'm not sure. But there is an area devoted to John Allen at the RR museum in Balboa Park.
More than one engine survived. Plus some other rolling stock and a few buildings were also salvaged. Also, some of his photography.
All this about John Allen but I never saw the G&D trackplan..Anybody have it or know where we can view it on line ? S'pose I'll Search it/Youtube it in a bit and see what comes up...
Ah, yeah, I just now went to this web site. I do recall now having seen alot of these pics, drawings and things of his somewhere back a long time ago in Mags .. Guess I plain forgot..Anyhoooooo, going back to it now to check it out again....Thanks !
I threw away a bunch of Mr's years ago. Now I wish I still had em. I don't like the direction the hobby is taking now and prefer the layouts I used to see in Mr during the 70's. I also have a couple old copies, not worth anything to anyone but me. I have one from the 1960's that has a pictorial on the G&D, it's always nice to go back to that one and see the master at work. Even if your magazine won't sell for a lot. Put it in a plastic bag and keep it. One day you'll open it up and have a wonderful time re-reading.
Yesterday I sold some magazines. They all ranged from $1.25 to $2.00 each. But those were narrow gauge, which tends to be smaller print runs, and harder to find- So tend to bring more money.
