Can you do the same thing w/ a switch list?

Nice video, thanks for sharing. I know a few operators that think that is "normal" operating speed!
BTW, about how long is that section? As a stand alone module it would make a nice little switching layout.

Great to see how much switching action can be had in a small yard.

Andy, of course it can be done. But the advantage of the carcard and waybill system is the simplicity in preparing an operation session. For the big but only temporary layouts at our meetings, it would require a lot of work before every session. And since we do not have "station agents" in the towns, waybills and colorcoded carcards are also a good way to determine the way of an outgoing car. Have a look at chapter 8 of our standard.

Steve, Appaloosa Junction is 10' 4'' long. Here is a link to a scale drawing

Awesome video and the very reason I have decided to build a switching layout. I have been looking at card systems but have also settled for a switch list program, keep the videos coming

The biggest problem w/ car cards & waybills is all the paperwork to handle & usually no place to put them. Switch lists can be handheld & the original ones were the same size as a timetable to write on. Also all the info on car cards & waybills can be put on switch lists.

Looks way too complicated to me & most of the MRs that use car cards don't provide any where near the working space you're showing. Besides the real RRs just use switch lists. LOL

I cut my eye teeth on car cards on the East Bay Lines, 2-rail 0 scale. Still drop in on occasion. However, knowing how they work (car cards), I had to modify how we did it on my operating pike, as car cards disintegrate when wet, the holders fill up with water, and if wood, rot.
We use separate switch lists, specifying type of car, not specific, as with 120 freight cars, of which at least half go out before the session begins, and all come in at the end, getting specific cars in specific slots is not an option. Wish I could do car cards here, but a 1500' long outdoor pike won't handle it in damp climes. Nice video.

Hei BerNd... what happens to the movie?
It seems "private" from a message on Yoytube?
I've seen it some days ago and want to replicate the link on an Italian forum....
    Anyway... well done!
    Cheers

    Hi Enzo,

I do not know what happend, but all videos were in private mode after the launch of the new channel design. Very strange.

    Now everything works again.
