Kato just posted an updated product release schedule. What could "new Freight car Sets" be referring to? And, alas, no new passenger offerings yet. Oh where, Oh where is my 20th Century limited?
My guess would be more of these repaints of Japanese prototype cars in US paint schemes. http://www.katousa.com/N/SS-Freight/index.html
Hmmm. Not sure how well that idea might sell, with so many modeling North American companies and desiring fidelity to prototype.
I think that'd be a pretty good guess. There's a lot of model railroaders out there who get their kicks from other aspects of the hobby and aren't concerned about such specifics.
Maybe they'll be circus paint schemes -- or Civil War commemorative ones? Kato going the collectors route ....
Not sure about Civil War schemes, I don't think Kato Japan would do that. I do think Japanese prototype repaints could be a option, but to be honest I'm not sure what to expect. I did see that the Virginian, NYC, and Norfolk Southern SD70Ace's are supposed to be coming in August.
I was thinking the same thing until I checked the actual release. It says "N Scale New tooling North American Prototype Freight car Set." This could get interesting. http://www.katousa.com/PDF/June/Upcoming Preorders-June13.pdf If I were a betting man, I would put money on the first models being of standard car types for train sets. I hope not. I already have all the Micro-Trains Circus and Civil War Cars. Andy Tetsu Uma
I didn't notice the new tooling part, interesting. Here are some of their recent Japanese freight sets to give an idea of what they've been doing on the home market.
Kato does makes some very nice Japanese prototype freight cars. It would be nice to see them do some more North American equipment.
I found them a bit on the light side, but that's in keeping with the Japanese N scale practice of not weighting the cars as much. Some steam era freight sets would be nice with a retooled and updated Mikado to go with them.
Kato sure does a good job w/ their packaging. Their locomotive jewel cases and inserts are top - drawer, and the inserts in those Japanese sets are very nice also. I'm curious to see what this turns out to be. I'm sure they'll be nice, and probably modern like posted earlier....
