IF anyone is going to assemble/paint these beauties I'd be interested in a pair...you could PM me with costs...
Yea David I can paint your 2 up for you. Have about 8 of them so far on my request list and that doesn't include my two.
Thought those of you who are painting these should know that Scalecoat II is the best match for new, shiny UP colors. I did a paint chip test years ago after spraying several brands' Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray on pieces of Styrene, then going to the Riverdale yard to compare them in bright sunlight with newly painted prototype UP motive power. Unfortunately, Kato cars aren't too close to the actual Armour Yellow, and their gray is even further from Harbor Mist Gray. Ah well. I struggle between matching the consist or accuracy. On motive power and cabooses, accuracy wins. On passenger equipment, usually matching wins. Cheerio! Bob Gilmore
Jeff, The decals sheet is... http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/...duct_Count=128 I have made the plate a fraction larger than the decal. It is flat on one side and has ribs on the back that match the contours of the sides, missing the stud detail. They are handed, the pic only show one as I only had one printed in my test model but you will get two in the kit for Jim Adams and the pair. Thanks Bob for the paint tips. I have also widened the truck frames just a bit as the wheel sets where a little tight, there was also a small detail missing from the side of the truck that did not print but I have now fixed that as well. I want to make a slight change to the coupling mount tonight as it is also too tight but all in all I think that is it. I ran a small drill into the bolster holes to get it to push in better but I don't think I will open them up any more, I think it was more residue than material. They trucks track great through turnouts. -James
Ok peeps, Here they are............. Both together, Jim & Joe. http://www.shapeways.com/model/1381...-jim-joe.html?li=search-results&materialId=61 Jim on his own (Tender with Flags). http://www.shapeways.com/model/1373...im-adams.html?li=search-results&materialId=61 Joe on his own (Tender without Flags). http://www.shapeways.com/model/1381...e-jordan.html?li=search-results&materialId=61 I found the trucks a little stiff when putting in the wheels, and I have read that some people recommend printiung trucks in white/black strong and flexible, so I have added another model with just trucks in if you want them in a different material. I have not printed them so I can not grantee they will print but the worst that will happen is ShapeWays will refund your money. and let me know they can not be printed in white/black strong and flexible. http://www.shapeways.com/model/1452...ale-1-160.html?li=more-from-shop&materialId=6 Happy shopping! -James
Here is something that might help, On the Shapeways site for a limited time only: New customers Save $15 on orders $75+ with promo code ghost. -James
Yep, I'll get these painted up and then when you do the pre-rebuild version I'll sell them on eBay and make a fortune I really appreciate you taking this on. The old Con-Cor turbine tenders would have been woeful fill-ins. Cheers, -Mark
Yep the Con-Cor ones look quite chunky now, the pre-rebuild ones are also coming on nicely, but not ready for screen shots yet. Plus I want to get the DD35 and my log cars sorted first. But that wont take to long, the test prints came out great. When I asked the other day about the DD40AX light board, it's for the DD35, as I say I will start a thread shortly. -James
Hi all those who have grabbed a water tender or two, has Shapeways put them into production yet (you should get an email or you can check in the order window) or are they still possessing? I only ask as this is technically an new model that has not been printed before, the test print was a model with a different ID number and I had a few issues getting theme to print the ladders the fist time. Once it has been marked as ok by them once they will keep printing it. -James
Ok, thanks Mark. Thinking about it mine have taken about three days before now to get to production. The nice guy at Shapeways said he will keep an eye I on it, he was the one who pushed the ladders through. As it is a new model, never printed before under this number, it has to be checked, but once passed they don't check again, unless I update it. -James
James, I just joined Trainboard to use my 1st post to THANK YOU! My order is in with Shapeways for both bottles. I have always had a warm spot in my heart for 3985. I was present at her re-birth in the Cheyenne roundhouse and have had a short turn at her throttle. Athearn's model brought her home. Your beautiful tenders and Kato's CoLA complete the picture. I'll also give a "huzzah!" To Mark and the others with their prototype info to aid your quest. Thanks All! Bob Craig Cincinnati, OH UPHS member #67
