I have a Lenz L90 Starter Set for my small layout, runs great, haven't had any problems. I recently bought a LA152 Plug-panel for easy throttle plugging in and out. Now I would like to use JMRI with my layout. I saw that Lenz makes USB interface adapters for their systems, however, there way over-priced. On Ebay and hobby stores i've seen NCE's USB interface adapters for dirt cheap. So, I was wondering would a NCE Interface adapter work with a Lenz system? Thanks to anyone who helps and puts in their two-cents worth. Or in a whole new direction, should I just save up for a Digitrax System?
Hi P.S. Schuman (signature would help with your name) I have an NCE USB adapter and as far as I know, it is not compatible with Lenz. Just purchase the Lenz USB interface or find one that is compatible. On a further note, if you are happy with the Lenz system, stick with it, I would not replace it with a Digitrax system if you are happy with it. (I am an NCE PowerCab user, have tried to use and got rid of a Lenz Compact (Atlas Commander) system.) Cheers
+1. The NCE adapter will not work with a Lenz system. The only brand I know of that makes any Lenz-compatible items is CVP (www.cvpusa.com), and unfortunately they don't offer a computer interface.
Hi pschuman21, I too have a Lenz set 90 (very happy with its performance also) and coincidentally installed an LA152 recently as well (small world). Another option available to you is the Digitrax PR3. I don't know what you are trying to accomplish but if all you want to do is program decoders (as in my case) have you looked into the Digitrax PR3? I've been using the PR3 to interface with JMRI decoderpro for over a year and it's been working great. I paid about $67 for a PR3 at an online dealer that I've had great service from. (cant state name due to trainboard rules) Beats the heck out of Lenzs' Li usb at over $170 for sure!! PM me if you cant find a PR3 at the price quoted above or lower. Brian
