I realize that I'm a late comer to Trainworx's models. Now, in the last couple of months, I've picked up quite a few. I think the first I ordered were the GS drop bottom gons in WP and SN. Then it was a few semi trailers. Saturday, I got a couple of WP and a D&RGW 52' gons and a couple of WP 85' flat cars. Wow. I think Trainworx is becoming one of my favorite N scale manufactures.
I always thought their stuff looked pretty good. I'd love to have an excuse to pick up some of their 85' pullman flats, but I have neither the funds in my college budget, nor the ability to run anything that long :-( Maybe I'll have to get myself one of their upcoming conrail gons and give them a proper looking over
I love Trainworx stuff...great models! Of all the stuff I have on order right now, about 75% is Trainworx. I already have an almost-complete unit train of their quad hoppers, several of their UPS trailers, and just got a couple of their 52ft gons. I also have the UPS pups, more quads, more 52ft gons, and a couple of the PD covered hoppers all on order.
The gons are very nice. If you can find some, the drop bottom gons are only 40' long. I have an HCD layout and I figured that since I run my Cali Zephyr on it, I can run a few 85' flats.
I envy you lol. If I had the clearances I'd run 85' & 90' flats, autoracks, and superliners! To a certain extent I'm glad I don't-things would get even more expensive -_-
I've got a few of their 86' autoparts cars, but have never ran them,,, maybe on another layout,,,, and I have their quads in L&N yellow lettering, L&N white lettering, L&N(FLS), Clinchfield, Seaboard System, and of course CSX. Can't wait for the CSX re-stencil cars due soon. Trevor D.
Trainworx has put out some very nice models. I have all of the 46' Gondolas for Rio Grande and a couple other individual gondolas (WP? CBQ?). Got the Rio Grande 85' Pullman Flats as well... trailers from a few different roads too. They've been filling a gap in the late 1950 to early 1970 period of freight cars... tail end of my modeling interest.
LOL Don't envy. My layout is very simple, just an oval and a few sidings. I built it with the expressed purpose of being able to run my Zephyr. At other times, it pretends to be the Tidewater Southern.
Have the Rio Grande GS gons also. Very nice cars! Waiting on the Rio Grande flats and 3 Rio Grande gons. Hoping the TW trailers fit the flats without too much trouble. Have to drill out the BLMA trailer hitch, or remove the mounting lug under the trailer to get it to work. Just can't do anything more now, until my situation is sorted out!
The auto parts boxcars, GS gons, 52' gons, Wood Packer cars (joint venture with Fox Valley), and the 100T quads are excellent cars.
I have a lot of TrainWorx cars, they are great! Another welcome addition to the scale! Between BLMA, TrainWorx, Fox Valley and Bluford shops, I do not see myself buying any Atlas or MT cars anymore..... It is nice not to see the same molds cycled around and around again!
Regarding "same molds cycled around", that's hardly fair to Atlas. (and even MTL to some extent) Atlas continues to release new, high quality freight cars on a regular basis. Speaking only of stuff in my era that I've purchased, the coil car and 89ft flat are both state-of-the-art cars that Atlas has given us recently. Of the Atlas/Trainman "recycles", about half are still cars in the Master Series line that hold up to anything currently being released with maybe one or two exceptions. I can't defend MTL too much but their PS-2 3-Bay Covered Hopper is pretty nice, and looks like the new log car is done well...at least they're making some effort versus 5 years ago when many of us would go a year or more without buying an MTL car. I think the great thing about having Trainworx ,BLMA, FVM, Bluford, ESM, Rapido, Prairie Shadows, et al is that when the Atlas' and the Athearn's of the world have to back off of developing new products, (as they have given economic and industry conditions) the more nimble "little guys" keep things rolling. Granted, mostly because they have no choice since they don't have the vast line from which to recycle but the end result is there's always something new in somebody's pipeline.
Don't cut short the new Atlas PS-1 boxcar. It's right up there with the current crop of detailed cars. Trainworx new 52' gondola is fantastic along with that woodpacker car they did with FVM. If MT doesn't up their game shortly, they're gonna get left in the dust. I don't even look at anything from them anymore. I'd really like to see them do a detailed version of Kadees HO PS-2 2 bay hopper in N. Bob
I have the D&RGW Wood Packer, too. Very nice! I didn't jump on the Trainworx bandwagon at first because I didn't have a need for the hoppers. Then I bought a few of the GS gons and loved them. I also have a couple of the Atlas PS1 box cars and they are sweet. It's a great time to be in N scale.
