Kato started to put out the announcement with small pictures last week via their Twitter feed. They formally announced it this afternoon on the website. They are covering the Amtrak Auto Train, CN, and CP versions of the modern car with delivery expected sometime in late January, 2014. http://www.katousa.com/N/Autorack/index.html Brian
I am pumped about these, going to go half and half on a CP set and get a full set of CN. AWESOME. Edit: let me also add, that I was in the Montreal/Dorval area this summer, and also rode the Ocean to Halifax, and saw these cars on CN and CP. They are out there, at least on those areas.
I'm in for a set of CN, see them on Texas all the time. I've seen these in UP and TTX, too. That's what I'd really like.
Did anyone also notice that the MSRP is only $90 for 4 cars, so street cost should be about $65 or $70 for 4 autoracks. Much less expensive than the other autoracks out there.
The artwork for the Amtrak version shows perforated sides, but the prototype has unperforated sides - wonder how the model will be configured? http://www.katousa.com/N/Autorack/Amtrak.jpg
I think that Kato wrote in the announcement that the base model would be 'unperforated' and that the CN and CP models would have simulated 'perforations' via printing. An interesting concept that makes sense to me considering how small those perforations would be at 1/160 actual size. I'm sure that there will be some disagreement, wailing, gnashing of teeth, etc. anyway.
I've already seen "street" prices at an OHS for less than $60 a set. I'll be getting a couple sets. Andy Tetsu Uma
Exactly - so, if the artwork for the Amtrak version shows perforations, did the art department not get the memo from advertising?
