I'm please they are re running the prints for you, I think their customer service is fantastic, that's why I like using them. As for weather or not the next prints will have it I think it is unlikely, I have had lots of these printed and I haven't had that happen there yet. I also checked some other prints last night and as I said before, once the fuzz was scrubbed off it left the footprint but it was smooth and the paint covered it completely.

    Hope they come out well,

I've just noticed, on my Shapeways site, the model for a single EMD DD35 powered unit was incorrect. It was actually the EMD DD35 dummy unit hence why it was more expensive that it should have been! The dummy includes trucks and a chassis). Sorry about that, all fixed now.

I see you're getting close on the pre-rebuild tender! Eagerly awaiting.

UPS says the DD35 shell re-runs should be here on Thursday. A day or two of solvent soak and we'll see what we have. The parts to fix my airbrush arrived yesterday, so we're good there, too, though I might not have a suitable space to spray until after the weekend. Still rooting around in my detail parts for .010" phosphor-bronze wire for handrails.

As with the UP water bottles, I'm still hung-up on handrails (and grabs), doing wire and Gold Medal stanchions on the DD35s for that added touch. Standing by for a tool order from Micro-Mark to make the job a little less onerous. Further life schedule impacts, however... won't be able to touch anything for another week, got suckered into playing with a pit orchestra for a musical theater performance, which so far amounts to a second full-time job. :-(

Note to myself and maybe James - we ought to think about a bending/fabrication jig for handrails. Basically, a flat bit with grooves for bending and positioning, with holes to accommodate solder and iron tip.

    C855B,

Good ideas for the Jig, any body else want one? How about a show of show of hands? If a few want one I will do one.

As for my other projects, i have been hampered by the loss of my motorcycle for he last month, but hope is on the horizon as thanks to Bobthebear, aka Dad, I ordered a new (second hand) engine today so it will live again! And I will have transport.

But I can can reveal that Baldwin will be getting a new player in 3D printed shell market next month.

    Hi all,

The next step in the DD35 adventure was to re use the spare shells form the Bachmann DDA40Xs. Bobthebear wanted use a DDA40X as a dummy locomotive on the back of a long coal drag. To do this I 3D printed a chassis and a set of DD35 dummy trucks and this is how it looked.

I have also drawn proper DDA40X dummy trucks for the chassis.

I have written more on my blog site if you are interested and there is also some videos.

So after many requests, I have created an etched brass set of handrails for this locomotive and I am pleased with it so far......

Bobthebear again did the painting and installed the handrails. This one is not quite done yet but it is almost there and those rails look fab!
