    ""Dash 8-32B""

    "Atlas already did this."

No, Atlas did the Amtrak Dash 8-32WH... a completely different creature with wide cab and an extended long hood providing for space for the HEP generator. While a B32-8 (a more common parlance based could be on the previous Dash-7 line) could be kitbashed using the B23-7 chassis and B32-8WH long hood and B40-8 cab and short hood it would be nice if this sort of work could be avoided.

Something to keep in mind... Shapeways' resolution is still not as good as it should be (I say should be because of the multiple millions invested recently in the companty should have been used to acquire better machines), with some clean up still being necessary. I have seen some really nice shells done but they still require clean-up and some sanding to remove banding layers.

How about a high nose BL-2 SOUTHERN had them on order. But due to the war never got them. Would be nice.
and a high nose GP15 would be cool also. Thanks JT

Speaking of 3 printing.. What about the odd ball looking and rebuilt locomotives in both STEAM and DIESELS,regardless of 1:1 gauge? And have them actually manufactured as a resin shell that can be fitted over a FLEISCHMANN,ATLAS, ROUNDHOUSE / ATHEARN,MODEL-POWER,KATO CHASSIS.

I don't believe anyone has mentioned this one yet: How about an EMD SW1 switcher? Something we could adapt to the LifeLike SW, or even better, Kato NW2 chassis.

    Ken,

Randgust has done the SW-1 and he uses the Kato NW-2 chasis for a starting point. I have thought about having him build me one and painting it into SNCT 52.

    Hi Ryan-

Yes. I know there have been bashes and custom builds. Many of them, in fact. But in this I am thinking more of a "regular" production type of product.

And yes, one I had in mind was SNCT 52, plus it's predecessor, MILW 869. Also 878 the Weyerhaeuser leased Snoqualmie Falls mill switcher. Unfortunately, we are past growing season, so I will need to re-plant a new money tree out back next May.

I stand corrected. But the bash doesn't sound too hard.

How about a SF30C for the ATSF guys? That would be an odd duck..

When you figure out how to plant a money tree, please pass the info onto me. I could use an endless supply of money that grows in seasons. LOL

    I just finished a B32-8, it's a pretty straight forward build.

I'm working on the CNW Pacific, just having a difficult time getting the nose right.

Beautiful!!! Simply beautiful!!! Almost (but not quite) makes me want to model the modern (post-1980s) era... but the Bachmann Ten Wheeler has sealed my fate.

    "GP40X
    SF30C
    Anything beginning with SDP..."

I was at Belmont Shores N-scale club when the ATSF GP40Xs first arrived in Los Angeles and was treated to a first look thanks to the folks there. It was something greatly of interest to see and it marked the start of what would become a new generation of locomotives. Unfortunately my time in L.A. was limited and I have never seen the SF30C in person, but they are beautiful locomotives built from ingenuity and proven to be very successful in and of themselves. Had the newer units not proven to have been as successful as they were (despite problems with systems) they would have left an even bigger mark than they did.

Nearly a decade earlier, before my move to the North state of the Carolinas I was there to see the SDP45s powering trains such as the San Jacquin Daylight and the Sunset Limited. I was there to see the UP domes taken out of service and placed in two rows in the yard, before their sale to AutoTrain and I saw the SDP45s displaced by earlier F-units when Amtrak took the operations of passenger trains.

So, yes, I would love to see both of these produced, be it by Rapid Prototyping or injected molded styrene.

And I would also love to see a Brill motor car produced so that I could build a model of one of these...

GP40X For the Win! Round 3 for my suggestions, not exactly a complete shell but would someone please do an 88 inch nose with ratchet brake for a Kato SD40-2?? NS's new ex-BN SD40-2's have that nose, but everything else is standard Mid-Production, and different style of truck sideframes would be nice especially some Conrail style and N&W style ones.

Didn't Kato do a "Snoot" version, some years ago?
