The B&G Railway (Bluewater & Grandview) is a 3' x 6'8" layout on a hollow core door. The layout design is a hybrid of the Atlas N-17 and the Appalachian Central from Model Railroader magazine. The setting is Eastern US within the Appalachian Mts. The rail system is serviced by The Chessie System, and you'll see original B&O and C&O locos also on this route. I've wanted to post some progress for awhile now, so here goes: Here is where I started from 2 months ago. Since then, I've added a 12" high backdrop. Welcome to Grandview, a coal mining community. The coal mine is in the process of being built, and is the only structure on this side of the backdrop. Everything else will be scenery. This side of the backdrop is Bluewater. The hidden track is on the left with the urban industrial area to the right. Chessie System 4103 and 4108 consist running by the coal mine siding. I'll have many a money shots from this angle. I simply love the Black Diamond Run Bridge! 4103 and 4108 appear from the hidden track beneath the Black Diamond Run Bridge. A shot of the engine house with the DPW Grain Corp. in the background.

Dave: You made fantastic progress on the B&G. You did a great job with the trackplan and it's modifications From N-17. Keep posting update photo's. You've accomplished quite a bit since you started with your trackplan. Stay cool and run steam.....
Dave, thanks for posting pics. I hope you dont mind but I think that I will use your layout as a base and modify it for my needs, I have a smaller layout and need more turns for my son to enjoy. Are you going to inclose the hidden path or build up mountains around it? Keep up the great work!
I am studying your pics and one thing puzles me. How is the the foam shaped around the food corporation? Any chance of a top down pic of that area and kinda a side view? I have drawn out a quick idea for my layout but I dont want to hijack your topic. Im going to post a pic in my topic if you are interested.

mini - The food processing plant you asked about has been taken out of the layout. Once I added the backdrop through the center of the layout, I had to get rid of it. I'm glad I did because I think the backdrop makes it much more of a model railroad vs. a train set. Bob - The coal mine is from Walthers Cornerstone Series. I have the footprint drawn in AutoCad, and can convert it to either a jpeg image or .pdf to actual scale. If you are interested, I could email it to you. It went together very well considering all the styrene parts. I have yet to paint and weather it. BTW, per your advice, I'll be purchasing the Weather System by Bragdon Enterprises.
