Are the NS Dash 8-40C Locos still running regularly? Wikipedia says they are still in use by Norfolk Southern, but I’ve never seen them. If they are still in use would you say there are a lot of them and would they be all over?
According to Chris Toth's website, NS has 61 of their 82 Dash 8-40C's currently in storage. No idea where the 21 that are in active use are roaming however. Chris works hard to keep his website as updated as possible. http://www.nsdash9.com/roster.html Brian
We see them occasionally here in Columbus. I'll get the guys to keep an eye out for them and what trains they are running on when they see them.
Thanks, I just found this Photo in Hamilton Ohio taken on 10/8/13 in railphotos from Hamilton, Ohio The reason I was asking is I’m making a shadow box with 3 locos and I was going to use one of my Kato SD70 or maybe a C44-9W, but then I remembered that I had installed decoders in all of them and it would be a waste. So I decided to buy another and saw a new Bachmann Dash 8-40C on eBay for under $40. I just want something from current times and it’s not going to be running anyway as long as its new.
The C40-8s will eventually be rebuilt with Crescent cabs if the pilot conversions (being done in Roanoke) prove successful
