Attempting to model the Tehachapi Loop in Z, has anyone else attempted this and if so please contact me, to do it in scale would be a huge circle, so i would like to see how others have done it

    Allright!

First off welcome to TrainBoard. Good to have you on board.

Never in any other modelers life and or experience has the Tehachapi Loop been modeled to scale on a home layout. The HO scale, La Mesa Club, San Diego comes the closest to modeling it correctly. You have a very real opportunity to do it right, in Z scale.

Not able to put you in touch with modelers who've attempted this.... but an oogle google search might get us started in the right direction.

Here's the result of my search: I found a video for you but for some reason my computer and the TrainBoard server don't like talking to each other. I've had nothing but problems editing and adding in video's. Like some guy sitting on a telephone pole and pulling the plug just to see how pissed off I can get. Awhaw let's get Rick, heeheehe, let's do it again, hoohoohoo that's funny. I have no idea how to fix it and it does me piss me off. Mission accomplished.

I will try again in a few minutes from now. Something not right here.

Let us know how it all turns out. Pictures are always welcomed.

    Best of luck.

The La Mesa Model Railroad Club

Let's see if we can make this work...THIS TIME!!!!:( GRRRRRRR Now it wants me to recover the GD web page. Some days it doesn't pay to get up in the morning.

Ok, the following is the search mechanism I was working with. You can find several layouts featuring the Tehachapi Loop.

Took a baseball bat to my computer...got it. Uhh...err...it was supposed to imbed the video. Computer telling me TrainBoard is not responding....recover webpage...time after time, after time, after time. Do you think I might be frustrated?

Belmont Shores Model Railroad Club also modeled the Tehachapi Loop, a caricature.

Let's see if we can imbed the video.

You know you can do a lot with that space in Z scale.

Keep us posted and updated with pictures.

Model Railroading has a N scale track plan for the loop in their database, the "Southern Pacific Bakersfield Division", and retired editorial guy Jim Kelly is on his 3rd iteration of a N scale Tehachapi layout, more info on it should be out there somewhere.

The diameter of the loop is roughly 1,200 feet, which would give a non-compressed diameter of roughly 5'2" or so in Z, quite doable.

There are only plans so far, but you have the whole story on yhe link above.

I have also some plans for a Tehachapi Level on my new layout, but that level is not build yet. But the plans can be found in this link:
