ok ,,my kato throttle/power supply i think fried , it came with the basic starter set , i got a amtrak DCC engine and running on DC kato power supply ,,could this be the reason my power supply died ? and is the MRC 1276 Tech 7 AMPAC 760 Train Control with Momentum a better upgrade ?

If you have a DCC loco with decoder, then get a DCC system, and not another DC power pack. No, the DCC would not kill the Kato power pack. For a good DCC starter system, look at the Digitrax Zephyr or the NCE PowerCab

Would be good to know why the Kato power pack died, though. Make sure no shorts or anything on your layout.

i think i found the problem ,,it seems kato track doesnt like paint thinner ,,i had some paint my tracks and decided to clean the tracks first with some paint thinner , then go over it with goo gone ,,well the paint thiner actually faded the color of the kato ballast , i replaced those tracks with some newer ones i had lying around ,,,and behold i have power !!

also do to my loss of power cause of the paint thinner , i had put up a total of 4 power connectors to my powerpack ,,i also think this is another reason my powerpack was overheating ,,im only using the 1 power connector now ,,everything working perfect ,

You probably got some of the dissolved paint and plastic into the unijoiners, effectively isolating sections of track. Also, possible that something created a conductive bridge.

Even with DC, more power feeds will not cause a problem. Just make sure all have the same polarity on the rails.

    This :) ^5

Its really easy to get feeder polarity crossed when wiring the opposite side of a layout. One of the best suggestions I have ever read >>>> Put a colored piece of tape on the side of a boxcar. Decide what color that rail feeder wire will be. Push the boxcar down the track as you wire in feeders. The rail under the boxcar side with tape will always be the same color wire...even when you push the boxcar to the other side of the layout and the wiring seems reversed :) When wiring is done...pull the tape off the boxcar. No harm...no foul :)
