Found this site looking for advice on New Bright stuff (yes). Not going too crazy with the stuff but for the kids and I it is fun. Been working on the idea of adding the "chuff" sound to a 2-6-2 that I have begun to whack into a 2-6-0. Got on order one of those cheapy sound simulators. Took the bell and "clicker" out because they were overly annoying but kept the whistle. Next maybe will un-bling the tender and convert a caboose to a short passenger. I am having trouble with finding a conductor for this oddball scale. Trying to do as much as possible with what I have on hand and not to purchase much -- not that I can't but to go as far as I can with minimal investment is my challenge. Something to play with. R.F.&P was in my area during my early years -- I have an analog HO diesel somewhere and some cars. NS and CSX now. Anyway, thanks for this site.
Welcome to TrainBoard! A minimal investment will be quite a challenge, but it can be done. One way you can stretch dollars is by browsing tables at a model railroad swap meet, or two. One never knows what can be found in the used items which turn up at such events.
A lot of folks through the years (decades?) have come up with some ingenious solutions to building more and buying less. I've personally ben amazed what some have accomplished with matchsticks and the like. And to relate more directly, it's usually much easier to acheive something if you start with a goal in mind. Good luck and welcome aboard!
Meant engineer. thanks all. Looking forward to seeing the neato ideas that the more capable craftspersons demonstrate. Maybe I'll get inspired to new ideas also. Believe me, the little amount I am doing is a project.
Hi Twigboy, Welcome to the Train Board, glad to have you with us. I hope your are more substantial than just a twig, perhaps a branch at least. Though the RF&P was more impressive than even a branch because they owned and operated the impressive Pot Yard.
