In tribute to West Coast Don here is the first SNFF since Atlas has closed down. You might think it is early but here in Sydney australia it is sunday night. This pic was taken yesterday on my layout, it is off my MOPAC SD40 and a United Grain Growers hopper. This hopper was sent to me by my good friend Flash Blackman. A special welcome to our friends from the Atlas forum, look forward to seeing you all post around Trainboard. [ 07. June 2004, 23:17: Message edited by: Colonel ]
Here is an old one that Kieth Thompson took of my Imperial Sugar NTRAK modules. [ 07. June 2004, 04:26: Message edited by: r_i_straw ]
Colonel, that's a really nice looking grain elevator/mill. I've always had a soft spot for elevators and covered hoppers. I plan on having one or two on my layout someday.
Well our maintanence crew heard the word "shutdown", and we have never seen them move so quickly as they tore out of the building! This is how they left things. Actually I thought I had more grab irons on hand, but I didn't. So this is on hold until Chuck gets Craig's new parts in stock.
I took a bunch of photos on Memorial Day to put on the next few SNFF session on the Atlas board.. Won't be doing that, will I?? So here are three. What a barnstorming pilot might have seen flying over Eastern Pennsylvania a century ago: Then, if he decided to "buzz" the train: The lead locomotive, PRR H3b No. 123, finished week before last. This was originally the MDC sample sent to MR by MDC, which I purchased on eBay from Jim Kelly's daughter.:
Waiting for a green signal, BNSF 9779 leads coal empties back to the Powder River Basin mines of Wyoming. Shot from Amtrak #5 the California Zephyr, westbound from Denver: The Flatirons, west of Denver, on the old DRGW Moffat Route; 3 tunnels reside in this interesting geography:
Yeah, I did the same thing. Well, it appears I can post photos OK here, and there's lots of friendly faces. (Edit: this is N, Santa Fe Albuquerque Third District Layout, set in July '72) About a year ago I tried these same angles and failed MISERABLY with depth of field loss. Now, with the new digital camera, it seems like f11, a self-timer, and a tripod and they work great. This is really pushing the envelope with my layout - I'd always dreamed I could do this and had tried pinhole photos way back in the 70's with no luck at all. New U36C on a secondary westbound freight, waking up the motel guests in Flagstaff: Pretty much the same view with Amtrak #19 stopped at the platform: I'll confess to adding more sky and foreground cinders with Photoshop - my room isn't THAT big! Now, the real killer for depth of field - the complete long shot at the Divide: Well, that gets me started over here. I appreciate the welcomes that have been given to the Atlas Lifeboat Crews. Oh, and I'll probably restart the Shay thread when I get some parts in. Nothing moving on that one now. [ 07. June 2004, 00:44: Message edited by: randgust ]
Randgust With Atlas down or the next 2 1/2 months, minimum, looks like you'll have to bring the entire shay project over here!! I've checked in on the progress made on it, and I'm amazed at what you've accomplished so far!! Very nice work!! Makes me wish I could manage such a thing.........But I have trouble drawing a straight line even WITH a ruler!!
My first attempt at decals. Here is a covered hopper from Paul Cassar's N scale layout. It is named for the grain facility there. End reporting marks next. Maybe Blue Circle Cement if I can do that. [ 07. June 2004, 00:03: Message edited by: sapacif ]
Friends, since the Colonel has opted to put SNFF in the Inspection Pit, instead of in the N scale forum as it was on the Atlas site, might I suggest that every post note what scale is being depicted, since there could be photos of any scale presented. Just a thought.
Thirdrail- Nice job on those 2-8-0s. What stacks did you use to replace the originals? I don’t like the style that MDC included with their locos.
Great to have SNFF up on Trainboard! Great work everyone! Here are a couple recently "re-worked" (backgrounds added) photos from my layout:
I havn't been on the modeling side for several years now but seeing this SNFF is great stuff and I look forward to seeing more of this in the future too.
That's Detail Associates' "Flared stack". I've also used it on the Micro-Ace Mogul. You have to use Squadron putty as well, as the hole for the MDC stack is much larger as it is the diameter of the base. I'm working on an MDC Mogul now to convert it to a PRR F1c. The driver spacing is wrong though......
Hope no one minds but with the Atlas forum closed, I think it is gone for good due to some of the postings since the Christmas return, I was thinking I could hang out here. And since this is the new home of SNFF here are a few that you might like. Didn't do anything in the last week but hopefully next week. Play Ball......kida ball field at the end of town. Pair of SD7's pulling an empty refer train back to the ice house. And last, can't leave out the latest additions, VO-1000's, this one working the gravel pit. Thanks for letting us Atlas folks in to enjoy.
