Hi to All, I retired in 2008 and have wanted to do a layout in N Scale. I have a few pieces of flex track and some switches. Something small that is expandable seems like the best thing to do but, I think just getting started is the challenge. I would like some advice on the tools I will need to lay the track. I think as I get started, the questions will come and I will find myself posting more on this board. Thanks in advance for any advice. John
Hi John, Welcome to the Train Board, glad to have you on board. You might consider visiting one or more clubs for ideas and conversation. They don't have to be N-Scale because there really isn't much difference in modeling techniques and concepts, just a matter of size. A local hobby shop is a good place to learn of club locations. You might even consider using Google to locate hobby shops and clubs within a 100 mile radius of your home. A club an hour or two away would be good for a single visit just to get modeling ideas and information about other clubs. In the meantime, we'd be happy to share conversations and ideas with you.
For a smaller N scale layout, look into Hollow Core Door layout plans. And doors can be had for cheap, if you have a habitat for humanity store locally, they are often able to be had for $5 a door.
welcome to the forum dude lots of fun to be had here, bunch of nice people on here you should have no problem getting your questions answered. Chris, Go Red Sox.
Welcome to Trainboard, John. Keep in touch with your progress, and maybe a few photos to share as well! Good luck with your venture.
Thanks for all the "Welcoming Comments". I am looking for a club that is close by. There is one in Louisville that I visited several years ago. That is probably the closest to French Lick. Thanks for the hollow core door idea. I heard about that several years ago but, I had completely forgot. Thanks for reminding me. I will check it out. I hope to get the bench work started this weekend and I will hopefully post some photos.
Welcome aboard, John. N scale seems to be the most active forum here and I am sure you find all the help you seek.
