James, I tried and voila, the single unit with sideframes was there, the very first item! However, when I tried to purchase it, it denied my request. I gave it an hour, and tried again and it's no longer listed.....urrrrgh, frustrating!

I feel your pain, I have been battling with this all day. And yes, it has dropped again. So basically what has happened is Shapeways are in the process of introducing a new feature to their website, this adds another page of code to each model but this information is not compatible wit the old system so they are stuck in the middle. They are trying to move it forwards and hopefully will resolve it soon. Talk about bad timing for me!

For now the best I can do is keep an eye on their forum thread. If you are a Shapeways member you can see the forum, here is a link to the thread.

    I will keep you updated.

Well James, what an odyssey ... Third time is the charm, I think I may have bought your shell again, or at least they took my money again. Time will tell...
    Otto, cautiously optimistic...

    Hi Otto,

Yep, looks like they have fixed it. The moderators on the Shapeways forum say so anyway. And yes I have seen you have purchased a DT6-6-2000 shell with side frames. Thanks.

    Hi all,

Right, good news. Shapeways today have informed me that all the bugs have been sorted in the models, I won’t bore you with the details, so this means that they will all print. So for those who had orders rejected you can now re order with confidence, and for those who haven’t ordered yet, why not! :teeth:

Here is a work in progress shot of ours, we are still awaiting number decals, but you get the idea. Thanks to Bobthebear for the work.

Now that you have one up and running, I have a couple questions. How did you do window glass ??? What about headlights ??? Can that be done ??? It looks BEAUTIFUL, but would look SO much better in orange !!!

    Hi Rainer,

I am not familiar with the trainmaster truck, if it uses the same truck mechanism as the C-628/C-630 then it will fit but my side frames are an exact fit to the C-628/C-630 so if it is a bit different I don’t think it will.

Does anybody know if they are the same?

    Hi James,

My two DT6-6-2000 arrived a couple days ago. I found everything to be in good order and feel it is the best of the three Shapeways N scale model shells I've received thus far. The castings are more sturdy than the others I've purchased and the method of design... the handrails within the body for instance... show a high level of 3D sophistication. I'm certain these will be some fine looking models... just as your pictures have shown.

I wanted to comment on the two extra horns which were provided. They appear to have been added separately and were in the bag loose together with the shell... so your customers have to be careful not to throw them away by mistake. I happened to notice one was stuck to the wax residue on one of the shells... otherwise I would have lost it... and probably wouldn't have seen the other one in the bag. I think the horns probably should have been in the small bags with the engineers.

    Hi Calzephyr,

Thanks for the feedback and I am looking forward to seeing your finished models. As for the extra horns, that baffles me as there shouldn’t be any, the horns are part of the shell? The powered kits should have 1 shell, 2 truck side frames, and 2 engineers per loco? The dummy kit should have 1 shell, 2 trucks, 1 set of bolster pins and 2 engineers per loco?

Looks like you might have a free set of horns; hopefully they haven’t been knocked off somebody else’s loco?

How many horns are there supposed to be per shell.... 1 or 2?
Because... the shells only had one horn attached on each.

Uh...ohhhh... I just looked at your photos again and I see that there are two horns on your locomotives... one on each side.

It appears that the horns must have fallen off during shipping... one on each shell fell off and were loose in the bag.

Shapeways did not package the shells individually... so it is possible that during shipment the shells were bumping each other and the horns could have been knocked off.

It is common for Shapeways to send multiple shells together in one bag without separating them. Shapeways does provide ample cushioning around the product to prevent damage during shipping, but, if the items within the bag are not isolated from each other they will damage each other.
I've had issues with that before with the shipment of the Krausse-Maffei ML4000 models.

    Hi Joe,

That sucks! But I can recommend using super glue as a repair medium. I use the Loctite Gel Super Glue and a small amount mends FUD as if it was new, you can’t even see it. I haven’t tried the liquid stuff but the gel is great because it gives you a 10 to 20 second to get it right before it sets. As FUD is brittle it is usually a very clean break and the two bits will go back together well.

As for putting two shells in one bag, it all depends on who packs it, mine have come packaged differently every time. Let’s hope any others you get will be better!

So tonight, my Shapeways shell finally came. At first glance, exquisite. Great job James!
And then I turned it around and got this....ropelike protrusions in one end of the hood.
Do I send it back for a better one, or risk soaking it in Bestine to clean it and try to scrape off the protrusions? Will that invalidate any warranty? This has not been a fun project so far...:(
    regards, Zotto K

    Hi Otto,

Are they solid and actually made from FUD and part of the sell? Sadly it looks like your shell was printed too close to something else with that pattern and there has been some transference but I have never seen that bad before. I would recommend sending your photos to Shapeways customer support and asking their advice, they should answer today as they are very good. The may just send you another shell as this is caused by them not an issue with the shell. As for trying the Bestine, now you have photos, it can't hurt. I have never heard of Shapeways requesting damaged models sent back.

Please let me know what happens.

The way it will look after Bestine

    Hi Otto,

That is actually the wax residue from the FUD process. My shells have the same 'veiny' pattern on one of the ends. I was also concerned but noticed I could scrap it away with my fingernail and the residue was waxy. When I shone the light through it afterward it was not visible.

The two DT6-6-2000 from James are in the Bestine solution behind the two photos shown below.

Joe, thanks for the input, but these veins cannot be scraped away with a fingernail; not even with a blade, I tried. James, I will drop it in Bestine tonight and see what happens. It's good to know Shapeways backs this stuff, I'll try to get hold of them as well. Thanks guys, the saga continues...

I've had some of this runny looking stuff on a few models that is exactly what you have, I did try sanding the crap off but the results were less than wonderful. Shapeways did make new ones for me. They are really good with customer service and go out of their way to please. Although I have had a few models not up to par I feel that my experience with Shapeways has been a positive one.

    James... and Otto...

That veiny problem did NOT go away after 4 hours in the Bestine solution. I tried to use a soft bristle brush to get it reduced a bit... but... it is still visible and may have thinned the shell a bit in the process. Drats... but... I still like the model a lot and I'm hopeful that once painted the 'veins' will not show up.
