In December, 1934 in Indianapolis, you could find the New York Central Railroad's "Commodore Vanderbilt". It was built in December 1934, and was displayed in Chicago at LaSalle Street Station on 12 and 13 January 1935. Collection W. H. Bass Photo Company
The 100 year advancement in locomotive technology is amazing when you're able to compare the Dewitt Clinton with the Commodore Vanderbilt.
And another steamer behind the Commodore. Was this a big show of some sort? Hudson 5344 in her first streamlined personality. Thanks, Roger, for more history.
I'm assuming the Commodore was cold in that shot and was being moved by the locomotive behind it. Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk 2
That is what I would suspect. As with Jim, I am curious as to what was ongoing. Some sort of event...
After the engine was streamlined it was sent on a system wide tour before being put into service on the Century between Chicago and Toledo.
