And everyone keeps missing the most important item! If it is the excursion model.... will the width of the white stripes around the drivers be perfectly to scale?

    ;)

Time to throw a train-fest and invite all the excursion stoves and locomotives out there to Steam Fest 2014.

Dang, now old Rick B. has me researching the wheels and drivers. What white stripes around the drivers? How a bout the UP emblem in the middle of the wheels surrounded by a gold leaf ring? If they don't get this right we are all in for a big mess trying to straighten it out.

Look at all the free publicity they are getting.:uhoh:

Whole lot of hoopla for a loco that nobody has seen the preproduction model, much less a photo of same, nothing on the Kato website, looked this morning, and at most at least a year or more away maybe. Much debate on what version is right and nobody even knows what version will be made and discussion on whether the wheelbase and drivers will be right to do something else. Who knows maybe this is just a Kato smoke screen to hide that they are really doing the 700.

Meanwhile to add to the nitpicking list the wrong number of rivets for the headlight bracket, the left elephant ear is off kilter by a scale inch, and it is the wrong shade of black.

John - I'm not sure what "debate" you're talking about. We've had some discussion about the various versions that Kato may choose for their initial release, but it's all been quite civil and factual. A lot of good information for those of us who aren't that familiar with the 844 over the years since it (and presumably, its sisters) were built. Let's not discourage more of this "hoopla" (your words). A lot of us are excited about this upcoming release and are enjoying the discussion. Obviously, there have been a small number of posts making fun of the inevitable "nit picking," but nothing sincerely critical of Kato's upcoming release. Btw: Kato's website does list "new steam locomotive - coming soon" under the N scale locomotives, and we also have the official Kato flyer, so I don't quite understand why you are suggesting that this is a "Kato smoke screen."

It better look like this or I will only buy three of them. Argggggg. However, the telephoto squash shot does makes it look a little distorted.

Kato will need to use the ultra gloss paint (like they used on the Broadway Limited cars) to match that shine.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the 8444 variation that must include the droopy cab.

Oh sheez! I thought you were creating some...oh well...you weren't kidding! Hurrumph, if I buy the black version I'm going to want black wheels. On the Greyhound version I'm going to want the white ring on the wheels.

You know it's only going to be what Mr. Kato wants it to be. And! It will sell like hot cakes.

Nice shot of the 4-8-4 Russell S.. Even the shortened condensed version would appeal to me.

Glad Bob C., brought up the 8444 model. I will definitely be in the market for one of those.

Ummm, who? I hadn't noticed, can you please point me to it? I just see some useful information about the prototype; some of us DO GAS about such things.... and if you're a proud member of the "DGAS committe" that's fine, but please quit inventing negative predictions where there aren't any. We're all excited to see this model coming, and I'm sure Kato will do a phenomenal job. Whatever version is released, it should be relatively easy to modify to whatever version one wants, assuming one cares...

And it might even fit on the new Kato turn table. However, the oval shaped wheels in that one shot could create a problem. ;)

The oval shaped wheels would only cause a problem if the wheels where not quartered correctly...LMAO !!! ;)

*BTW...can I put the 'oval wheels' on the complaint list I am compiling ? ;)

I would guess if it is the preserved running loco that you will have to supply your own six to ten man crew in the cab?

Hopefully Kato will either include them or make them as an accessory so the era represented is not compromised.

Don't forget you have to also model the people along the tracks and the cars chasing it! :)

Perfect! Try to get some plastic people hanging out the windows of some cars and we have captured it!

So was this "announcement" an elaborate hoax? No mention of FEF in the model mag ads this month, nothing about it in the latest Kato newsletter ... who's fooling who here?
