Hello all, Just got some new walthers lightweights coming in the mail and had a question, I got 30" radius curves is that enough? I see they state 24 but have heard they need anymore. Thanks!
If they need more than 30" radius I don't know how they expect to sell them. Granted they will LOOK better on 30"+, but doesn't everything?
Are you worried about looks or operation? the bigger the radius, the better they will look. for operation, you should check their weights, I have always tried to follow NMRA guidelines for car weights. If i do, I have very little problems with curves. With the layout I'm doing now, most of my cars are in the 50 to 60 foot range.
Im worried about both lol. I don't want it to look like a smaller version lionel lol I got the room so I'll go as wide as room space permits if I don't like what they look on a 30 radius I can always go larger.
They'll work fine on 30" radius. I assume you are talking about cars similar to the Northern Pacific passenger cars in the center of the picture. My minimum radius is 32", but moss are broader and they work just fine. I have no problem pulling or pushing them through #6 turnouts.
Hey J911. Your mailbox is full. I been trying to get a hold of you. I started to make those Joshua trees. I just gotta pick up a fly zapper from harbor freight so I can modify it and do the static grass. Get back. K later
Short answer, is they will, except for a few exceptions, run on 24" radius curves. I have done so. They will run better and look better on 30" radius curves, or wider. My old layout has a 24 radius reverse loop, my new layout will have a minimum radius of 32" on main tracks.
