I am thinking about a "Southern Pacific Lines" - AC-12 4-8-8-2 Locomotive from Intermountain.

I never saw one running in N-Scale
Will it be possible to pull a Freight around the Horseshoe of Caliente!
    Are they running well?
    Are they powerful?

    This will be a alternative???

They are geared a little slower, but they run pretty smooth, at least mine do. They should have no issues on the layout.

You lucked out. Most of the ones I've seen in action, including the 2 I bought, run with a limp/wobble and are abnormally loud. As loud as Model Power Mikados/Pacifics/Moguls. Intermountain quality control must have been looking the other way while these units were built.

Eugen unless you are desperate for a Cabforward, you should skip it. A cheaper, better running, quieter articulated is the Bachmann EM1.

    Sorry Railhead

I am not an Bachmann Fan!(

I have this articulated from Rivarossy and also from Roeva. Great Moddel's! but not a Capforward.

    Eugen,

i was not a B'mann fan either but I caved and purchased an EM-1. It arrived, ran great out of the box, and then started having problems. For those who have not experienced a problem with their EM-1's, that's great. But, having learned first hand, I can say the EM-1 suffers some typical B'mann engineering quality. That's all I'll say about it. Good luck.

It is Bachmann's greatest achievement. Also the quietest operating N scale steam in existence.

The SP Cab Forward AC-12 4-8-8-2 is beautiful to watch pulling a long consist at it's reduced speed. I'm a big fan of this steam locomotive:cool::cool:

Wish it ran a bit closer to scale speed. Top speed is less than 50smph :(

It's been a couple of years since the last production run, so it's probably going to be pretty hard to find one from a retailer at this point. All the main ones I use are sold out.

    Cheers,

    Bob:

That "Challenger" #3985 is from the latest run of Athearn N Scale "Challengers. It has the Soundtraxx dual mode sound decoder factory installed. The initial run of Athearn "Challengers' with # 3985 had MRC factory installed sound decoders. I surprised that the #3985 "Challenger" is still available in In the U.K.:cool:

I think everyone who wanted one over here has got them now! As NMRA rep for part of U.K. I know many n scale modellers and Challengers have reached "saturation point" I think. We never seem to get enough Big-boys though!
    I'm surprised that Cab-forward hasn't gone.
    Cheers,Bob.

The challenger (athearn) engine i have is DCC equipped and works pretty well on DC (sounds too). There's a remote control that allows me to have a dc power pack at full throttle while i bring the engine to stop...
I hope you get the same with a cab-forward from IMRC....
