I started work on bashing a sd70ace together for the UP southern pacific heritage engine. The center has been filed down and roughed in shape, the rear radiators have been trimmed and are ready to be flared out a little more, the rear fan has been removed and a photo etched cover made. I may just bend a piece of brass for the center so I can get clean, crisp edges.
Didn't a fellow z-scaler make 3D printings of a SD70ACe/SD70M2 shell a few years ago, to be put on an AZL SD70 chassis? Dom
I don't think they were 3d printed and it was a limited run too. I think the were molded and had brass etched parts too.
http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?93515-SD70ACe-UP-D-amp-RGW-Heritage-unit/page30 I still have a few resin parts and brass etchings. Also working on making more! Lots more!
I'm getting a little more detailed than originally planned but I think people deserve the best I can do when they are paying me to do it. I'm working on cab artwork right now. I'm going to have all the etchings professionally done for the best results.
Awesome work!! Now let's just hope AZL will release spare chassis in the future, because I don't plan to undress any of my -M's to dress an -ACe.... Dom
Too bad that AZL can't think outside the bun a little? Or maybe their manufacturer won't let them release anything other than finished models?
Is there any brand who sells just a chassis? MTL just sells their gp shells because the ran out of chassis I assume...
I was about to ask the same question myself. MTL did make GP chassis available through monster Z which took longer to sell out than the full loco. But the chassis was the same price as a full loco. I bought one plus another $50 for a shell to get the loco I wanted! BTW I know of a local train store that still has a selection of MTL GPs from western roads if anyone is looking. Mark
