I finally completed an operating N Scale open bench trolley. I built this around a Bachmann Jackson & Sharp excursion car, a vertically mounted power truck and dashers from a Bachmann Brill. The trolley runs on two rails instead of overhead wires

That's really neat. You did a good job on it.

Cary, that's impressive, well done. Have you considered building a hot-wire trolley system?

Thank you for your kind comments. The motor was one of the major challenges of the project. As you can see in the picture, it is set back over the last axle and there is shelf-like piece over the front axle. The side frames are thick as well. Add to this the fact that the running boards restrict its swing.

I tried several methods of trying to attach it to the trolley body; none of which worked. I tried mounting it with an 00-90 screw as a pivot. I also tried mounting it with a tongue. Neither of these worked because of the running boards. I’ve left the power truck as a separate entity and mount the body over it whenever I want to run the trolley.

The trolley runs very smoothly and goes through 9 3/4 inch curves easily. It does run fast as do some Japanese motors but does respond nicely to having the power throttled back. I’ve attached an image of the motor’s instructions to show its dimensions.

Never thought I'd see something like this created in N scale. Wow.
