The Verdugo Valley Lines portrays operations of the Southern Pacific Railroad between downtown LA and the city of Bakersville over 100 miles to the north. Going thru San Fernando, Saugus, Lancaster, Mojave and Caliente. It also traverses the Tehachapi Loop. HO Scale 25' x 40'. The layout is located in Glendale California.

Wow. Loooong trip! They've certainly employed just about every idea possible. Someone did a lot of intricate planning. A lot of tunnel time. It was interesting to pass through a gantlet track, and at the beginning, even through a wash rack.

Nice viedo, love the cab rides, but I do agree with a lot of tunnel time. I have a cab video I shot at a large model railroad club last summer while traveling and am trying to figure out how to edit the tunnel time out before publishing. I would like to see this layout some time down the road when more scenery is completed.

TruScale. Bets. I like it. Chairs in all the ties, spikes every 5th of 6th tie, you can see the sections.
If I still had my TruScale, I'd still have a Half0 pike. What rail are you using?

Very herky-jerky ride, are they using an old Tyco 0-4-0 or something??

Maybe. That sure does look like Truscale. Probably the largest Truscale layout in the world if it is. I have some I bought on a whim that I may be parting with soon if you want to revive a Truscale layout...

    Possibly.
I'm at 20 minutes and holding on the video.....and sure enough, you can see in some of the unballasted tunnel areas, it's TruScale.
I see some upper tracks that might not be.
Once it's down, and spiked, it works very well.
I have a HUGE amount of 0 TruScale, .172 rail, spikes and joiners....and that isn't going to happen. Switches and all.
Decided to use the HiRail on GarGraves in the basement...expand out a bit what's there.

    TruScale Half0.....hmmmm....

Ya, the Truscale I have is HO, and I watched the video here again and it definitely is Truscale. That must have been a huge PITA to lay! I have about 6-8 turnouts, a crossover and some straight. When I saw it on the Bay one night ( Note to self: Don't drink & $bay) and it sent me back about 40 years in time to when I was a little kid staring in awe at the glass case display at our LHS with all of the expensive brass locos displayed on Truscale track. I got the whole lot for about $40 and most of it is in great shape- some boxes even, but a few turnouts were hacked a bit by some bonehead.

I got my Uncle's pike from the second owner after him....did my first shelf layout with it.
My brother took it to the farm he managed while I was in the Navy, did a big square thing with controls in middle.
Moved to the coast and left it all there.

    Needlenose pliers, pushing spikes in.....

I still have my Uncle's English Yardbird (rebuilt after 40 years in my sock drawer).
Plus his belt drive Varney F-3's...and his Varney Docksiders.....
Picked up boxes of old stuff over the years...back to embossed cardstock boxcars....all now with Mantua couplers....might have to do some TruScale to have the period road to run this stuff on.

I think I have an H0 throttle for my Marn-0-Stats........

Can you imagine...die cast steamers on TruScale, coupled with Mantua couplers, run by a Marn-0-Stat?

    The mind boggles.

I was actually pondering doing a little retro layout when I picked up that Truscale track. To complete the whole ~60's era layout look might mean even putting down a grass mat! *GasP*

I would love to see this ride again when more scenery is down, and the video edited to fade out the long tunnel sections (although it is interesting to see the benchwork and masses of wires!) Another plus on a video would be captions to locate stations, tunnels, etc. so we know where we are.

    Great layout!

Layout is coming along nicely - no much in the way of trains?
