I have an Atlas Silver Dash 8-40BW and am having a bit of trouble with the shell on it. I had taken it off once before and installed a TCS decoder in it. Runs great and I love it. Well since I have slept since then I forgot that the shell is in two pieces. I just finished up weathering another engine, my CF7, and thought I would do the Dash 8 next. I went to take the shell off and of course it came off in two pieces and I broke hand rails and other assorted parts along the way that were glued to both halves of the shell. Would it be alright to glue both halves together permanently and how much harder will this make it the next time I need to take the shell off ? Since I have it off now, broke it and fixed the broken parts I am going to weather it before I put it back on. (Only makes sense to me)

    Thanks

    Hi David,

i have 3 of them. Post a picture of what you have. Did it come apart from the sills? I have 1 that will not stay attached from the long hood to the sill/walkway. I've considered glueing it my self. I need to pull it apart first to see if that will cause issues I don't want.

What road are you running? I do BNSF myself. I have 2 with the Swoosh scheme and one Warbonnet scheme I have weathered extensivly.

Put up some pictures of your work.

I haven't done the weathering yet. It comes apart at the walkway and maybe I was wrong but I notice that quite a few of the handrail ends were not glued down when I put the decoder in. When I finished that I glued them all down and this time I forgot about doing that and, well I broke it. This is the one I have but #524, it splits along the yellow lines on the bottom. I run both this color and the older SF colors. I'll post the weathering when I finish it just trying to figure this out right now before I start.

There is something else I am wondering. On the bottom of the main part of the shell there are loops that you are suppose to squeeze to get the shell off (figured this out later) I wonder if I can cut those off , glue the shell together and just use the coupler screws to hold the shell on like Athearn does with theirs.

    Thanks

    David
