Thanks Guys, it was fun and glad you enjoyed the article. It's all Zinker55's fault really. Ever since he showed me one of his detailed B&O Geeps back in 1998, he got me the hook up on detailing N scale and I never looked back. He's a cool guy and great resource, even if he is a Yankees fan!

Okay what are red socks and Yankees? Is that some form of long underwear and insulated socks for winter. Oh and congrats on getting published. Now for the movie rights and then DVD releases.

Congrats Jim. Nice article and I like the tip on installing the BLMA cut levers. I will give that a try next time. One question though: Is that your real workbench or did you use a "stunt double"? ;)

Great article and nice locomotive. I remember the Rock while growing up in MN.

No way Jim, I just gave you a push. You took the modeling to a whole different level.....I'm lucky to be in the same group and to have you as a friend....One hell of a model rail roader.....

I was going to have an article published about three years ago, but the pictures I was going to use were not high quality enough (even though they were taken with a 12MP camera!). Oh well. The article was about adding a Digitrax TL1 decoder to light up a blinking LED beacon light on a Santa Fe SD40-2.

I still think John should take pictures of and submit an article on how to install an ESU LokSound with speaker in a GP30, SD35, SD40-2, etc.

The number of megapixels is only a small part of a much much larger quality pie. There are several 12MP cameras that are capable of getting shots that can span two pages or a cover. Lenses, tripods, lighting, etc all a part of things. But camera companies marketing departments are at a loss for selling points.

Really nice article, and good to see the Rock Island get some exposure. As usual, the LHS had the magazine several days before my subscription copy arrived. I was tempted to buy it anyway and actually read most of Jim's article at the store.

Thanks again guys, it was a fun article to write and I enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks Bill, it is a process that really helped me. Still a bit tedious but a lot faster than my first attempt years ago. The more you do it the faster and easier it becomes. The next locomotive that I hope to start this weekend will use BLMA pilot layovers which will make detailing the pilots even easier. Yes that is my work bench, I can't afford stunt doubles ;-) I get teased on my work bench but I had a great shop teacher in High School who taught me a place for everything and everything in place.

Wow Steve, that is a huge compliment coming from you and fortunate to call you my friend. We need to see about get a group of prototype modelers together here in Central Illinois. I would love to have a Prototype meet here, we have some good talent here in Central Illinois in all scales.

Have you thought about going to the St.Louis RPM meet August 7-8th? Should be fairly close for you. Our Modutrak group is thinking of going this year and we have been invited to bring our layout. It would be nice to have other N scalers attend the meet as well !

Thought it was the best article I've read in quit a while. It made me think of doing one similar.

If someone does attend, hopefully a few photos are grabbed and posted here for those of us far away...

I have wanted to go to a prototype meet in that area for the past few years. The previous employer I worked for always found a way to keep me away so this year I would love to come and bring some N scale.
