I've googled and can't find a definitive answer. I have a MTL GP7 and wondered if a MTL GP9 shell will fit on it?
its not a simple yes or no. Early GP35 chassis wont fit the GP9, while later GP35 and GP9 have identical chassis. On early GP35, you have to file down the nose of the chassis to get it to fit.
MTL never made a GP7........AZL did. I don't know the answer, but I do not believe it will fit. Someone will answer shortly I'm sure.
John, your a second or two ahead of me. You must be on day light-day light savings time ) I knew you would have the answer.
I mentioned before...I'm a huge rookie..lol In the haste of being a MTL fan, I am used to searching/looking for that, got to trigger happy with my typing. For some reason I thought the main difference in the GP7/GP9 was some minor details on the outside. I didn't realize the chassis underneath was different.
AZL's chassis and especially the shell, are narrower. There is no way a GP7 shell will fit on an MTL chassis. A GP9 shell will need shims inside to sit on a narrow AZL chassis. So what is the reason you want to so switch what with what ?
I think in the haste of my typing, my point didn't make it across. Let's try again. Forget about anything MTL. I have a AZL GP7. I wonder would an AZL GP9 shell fit it. My understanding was that the main difference in a GP7 and GP9 was some details. Therefore, with the desire to model like everyone else, and possibly do a custom shell, when I see them come on the 'bay at a decent price, I merely think I can spend less and have more money left for other stuff. Hence my question of if the shells are interchangeable. Again, I stress I am very new and still learning so I did not know that the AZL GP7 and AZL GP9 chassis are different.
Your question is a lot clearer, I just hope my answer will be. There are actually two versions of the AZL GP7: an older 6200 series and the newer 62000 series GP7/9. The 62000 series should be GP7/GP9 shell interchangeable because, as Jaques mentioned, they use the same new and improved common chassis. The 6200 series is a good design but it's a different chassis. Moving shells between the two series may well require some mechanical work. So far I've only seen the 6200 series heavily discounted on the aftermarket. Hope this helps, Mark
