My first non-US metal loco, not completely true, it's build by EMD, but exclusively for export. The odd shape of the body is the result of the restrictions imposed by the small British clearance gauge.
Body made from nickel-silver etched parts with a resin cast exhaust muffler. Chassis is a slightly modified MTL SD40-2.
The loco will be available as RTR or expert kit (not for beginners), due to the wide spread use in Europe many colorful road names are possible. This 1st example for Alfred Doerfler is in HGK colors.

Hi Gerd, what a great looking shell! I have seen quit some class66s here in the Netherlands. 1:1 But to be honest, I mis something in the trucks. Aren't the SD70 trucks a better match?

SD70 trucks are different and feel free to shorten an SD70 chassis. The trucks are simplified , as you may note all the pipes at the frame are missing too.

A short clip of a Class 66, or T66 in Sweden, spotted coming from the harbor in Gothenburg, Sweden. The clip is made to show off my ESU H0 T66 for Marklin 3-rail AC track. But it also gives a nice view from the side of the bulky truck frames. Looking from the side I think Gerd got it right. SD70 trucks can't be used because they have a special "floating" design. One major obstacle when I want to turn a SD70 into a SD60. The up coming SD45 trucks could possibly be used. I will try to put Gerd's truckframe sides on a SD70 trucks when I get around to it. I have ordered a spare set of trucks so that I have something to destroy. And when I say SD70 trucks can't be used I just refer to looks. I have no idea whether a AZL SD70 truck can be used together with a MTL SD40-2 chassis or not. I would assume not.

Some of the color schemes seen in the U.K

Feightliner Green/yellow seen on M/T cements at tapton Junction, Chesterfield

The most common scheme EWS (now known as DB Shenke) maroon. This schemes dates back to the ordering of loads of these locos by Ed Burkhardt when he took over a lot of the freight sub sectors on British rail and mirrors the Wisconsin Central look

Standard DRS livery 66 on northbound intermodal at Shap Summit

I'll add some more schemes in a mo'

Now the 66's didn't spring straight from the GM box. They were a development of the very similar class 59s that were delivered between 85' and 89' to companies specialising in quarry operations.

One is seen here at Peak Forest sidings and was pricipally used for hauling limestone to the power stations in Yorkshire for the sulfur scrubbers

A 59/1 is seen in ARC livery at Westbury a few years ago. Compared to the locos seen on British Rail at the time these seemed to be from a different planet!

Back to the 66's and the first of the line 66 001 is seen at Didcot with fellow Class members in the days before the giant Didcot power station closed down

Unfortunately I never got to photograph the equally short lived 'Fastline' liveried ones even though we had them on our shed at Kingmoor for a while nor did I photograph the 'Stobart' branded ones.
And there are some out there in Colas livery as well but I've never seen one up on the Furness line

Common nicknames for these are either 'Sheds' or 'Ying Yings' the latter name becomes obvious if you hear one with the engine idling!

Another go at embedding video after recent problems. Although I am advertising our competition here we had an interesting spell with Freightliner Heavy Haul diverting the Hunterston High Level to Fiddlers Ferry power station coal trains during last years RHTT season. This gives a good example of the length of these trains and the uniform appearance

I have scratchbuilt a rake of the similar HTA coal hoppers which are going to be a feature on my new british Z layout of which more anon!

    cheers
