Has anyone seen this modeled in N scale? I didn't even know they had a fire train until last week when it was used to put out a fire by the Indian Canyon Golf Course here in Spokane. This is awesome! Danny
Have never seen anyone model a train other than logging. In main line only a fire car or similar. Better get to your work bench!
While not quite the same...we had a train with a water tanker help fight a brush fire in Kearny, AZ last month http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona/2015/06/19/kearny-fire-train-arizona/29007227/?hootPostID=['4da17e53057e905d8bb7400255cb9196']
Not a bad project for the more modern era modeler. Some bulkhead flats maybe a pack or two of the available tanks that I believe are part of Walther's Cornerstone kits. The one car carries the generator and pump equipment, it appears under the booster line reels that are mounted above on that car. Doing the booster line reels possibly two options. Create your own using rod and tube, or buying a plastic fire truck kit that has those details on it as separate parts.. Mount and engine block, maybe from the fire truck kit in the screened area on the one car under the reels and the fire truck kit might have a detailed pump. There are metal cast engine blocks and electric motors available commercially in N scale. The other two cars are strictly water storage but would have flexible piping between the cars. Also the hose outlets on the pump panel of the fire truck kit along with the pump panel could be included in the car.
Perhaps MTL will be releasing their water tank loads soon, use those and their bulkheads, shouldn't be too difficult. I even know a guy in Spokane, who would probably make these.
This is pretty cool! I feel like this would be a not too difficult project. Although my current layout doesn't warrant it, I'd be interested in getting/making something like this. @John Moore you have some great ideas there!
