Absolutely! Can we add in "E5B?"

Don't know - found the photo (from mid- '77) here: http://thecrhs.org/Images/CR-6692-Enola-PA-7-9-1977
The roadnumber would be located next to the end grabs, but can't be determined from the photo.
Could be a refugee from the CF7 rebuild program?
    There's this photo of a similar unit [ http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/pictures/19902/ATSF_0342B_TV750617S1214u.jpg ]
dated mid-'75 at a scrapyard in Newark, NJ.
Maybe an ATSF expert can chime in with the disposition of the yellow warbonnet B units.

I seem to recall that many of the B units were not used in the CF7 program and were sold for scrap.

I know, KATO is going to do a re-tooled GS-4 along the FEF mechanism. I believe that would sell quite well. I can dream, can't I ? ?
Did I ever say that I am an SP and especially GS-4 fan?

F7's with only one headlight would be great for those who model eastern roads but I have my doubts. I second the comment on stocking parts on Kato's site.

I would be in for a couple of those, and since I've got 2 more undecs and custom decals to make 2 more of these, I'd say the chances are good :)

Some of the ex EL/CR units were rebuilt by MK, after they did a short lease stint with VMV. Once rebuilt you have SP speed lettering and UP and SP/UP patch.

However from the parts/tooling perspective, the SDP40 make a better choice, as you can use the SD40/45 mech, the SD45 sill and handrail and just need to tool up a new hood.

The most logical model for Kato to follow-up with is an E unit.
Only because they have taken pride in their full passenger consist sets... and do a great job with them.
They really need to tool an accompanying E5B unit for their 'surprise' release of the E5A a couple of years ago.
Off of that... they would be in line to do a line of E6 & E7 units as well.

Of course... we know how illogical Kato has been in the past...
so... the possibility of a North Pole Railroad 4-2-0 is still not that farfetched for them.

I'd like to see an E7. They could use this for an NYC 20th Century Ltd. I'm a PRR fan, so promoting a rival road is tough, but I might buy the set because it was classy looking. If they did an E7, they could do several PRR paint schemes from a 5 stripe DGLE to a keystone only Tuscan Red.

    +1.
I've suggested DGLE for the E8.
Having done the GG1 and Alco PA in that scheme, it's not as though they don't know the color.
Maybe we'll see it if they ever re-run the Broadway Ltd cars.

+1 on this as well... but... it would be a miracle if it ever happens... specially from Kato.

I agree E2s are beautiful locomotives and it be great to have an n-scale model of them.

How many companies owned an E2? How long were they in service?

I believe they started out joint ownership between UP, SP and maybe C&NW but SP finally ended up with them.

There were a pair of A's and four B's. After the partnership of the City of San Francisco and the City of Los Angeles between the SP, UP and C&NW desolved, each road got parts of the sets of E2's and E7's that were in the pool. I am not going into the details of the E7's.

The A unit SF1 became Sp 6011, and was rebuilt in 1953 into a E7, SP 6017, and was retired in 1966. The other A, LA1, went to the C&NW and was scrapped after a head on accident in 1953 as well.
The UP got all four of the B's, and they were rebuilt into E8B's.....in 1953.....
