Here's a PC G36c (reclassed by PC as G36m but still in it's original PRR configuration)

Here's one of the toy cars that served at a starting point:

There was an article in N Scale about a year ago on these cars, though I took an entirely different approach.

Hemi, I'll see your side dump and raise you one....

Both of these were shot yesterday at BNSF's Alliance Yard in Haslet, TX. (North of Fort Worth near the Texas Motor Speedway) Also at Alliance...

...a BN Railbox car. Check out the graffiti on the right side. Apparently the graffiti was done with the door open. And, while BNSF apparently cared enough to restencil the car, they didn't bother shutting the door while they were at it!!! hehe

...a Carbon Black covered hopper. This is a car I've been scoping out for submission to Micro-Trains. Unique enough that nobody would probably touch it except M-T, or maybe LBF. There are several roadnames and some with more "billboard" type graphics but, like the venerable Model-T, they come in any color as long as it's black! ;) I'm looking for plans if anybody is privvy. (I'm also planning to scratchbuild one, regardless.)

And finally, this is a helper locomotive that I shot a few weeks ago.

Rich, like, wow, man!! [IMG] :D I especially like the lowering of the car...

Hemi, that was taken in Glenwood Canyon. We had relatives with us on their first visit to the States, and we were just having lunch at a rest stop when a coalie came by, right on cue. I was too late to catch the mid-train helpers, but the tail end power made up for that! [IMG]

virtual-bird... nobody here is on the in-crowd! :D SNFF was started on the Atlas forum as an opportunity for N scale modelers to show each other pictures of their modeling progress for the week. When Atlas shut down their forum for the summer, many of the Atlas regulars migrated north for the summer and they brought SNFF with them.

So... got any pictures for us? ;)

    Scott,
I thought you might appreciate these shots I took of SP 378 (the last AC ordered!) which was patched or painted about a month ago. I also caught SP 146 in Roseville last week. Please post more photos when you get a chance. I have some more photos of 378, so if you want higher resolution shots for detailing, let me know.

Ryan, Thanks! Should have most of the paint work done on the other tomorrow. I'll try to take more pics. Too bad the #378 got repainted. SP painted units are getting few and far between in my neck of the woods. :(

    Not much modeling done.
Unless putting together new new computer chair counts??

Added a 22"x22"x1/4" piece of diamond plate to the base, so I wouldn't kill myself when sitting down!

Yes, it IS an actual Southern Pacific locomotive chair!

Any chance you have an image of the billboard of your second shot? It would look great next to my Army base on my layout.

    Rich,

From the trucks and couplers this looks like it was from the old Aurora "Red Ball Express". But I had one of those and the car's side doesn't look like mine. Did they have more than one body style gon in the RBE?

    Mike

BTW, you did one heck of a job with it.

I am contributing a little late but here is my first contribution to SNFF.

Here is a picture of my recently completed bridge. Please excuse the unfinished hills in the background (I am about to add the ground foam here).

    Thanks,

    Mike,

The car came with a set including a ATSF industrial switcher, two pulpwood flats, and a caboose. None of the other cars appear at all usable. It's an Aurora car, so there must have been more than one style - this one is great since it's based on a rather rare PRR prototype.

The Aurora Toy set came with the cars you mention.....there weren't any other types AFAIK but IIRC there were some additonal paint jobs on the cars. The cars were decent to crude Mexican copies of the Aurora/MiniTrix Roco-tooled PostageStamp freight cars....the set was the one with the preformed over and under track base with slotted ties that metal strip rails pressed into to form the track.
The conversion is a great example of turning a sow's ear into a silk purse!!

    Kieth,

You have way to much time on your hands - your compter desk is way to clean. I wish I had that type of orginizational skills. Looks really cool.
