I recently purchased a Busch concrete model kit. Never having purchased Busch before I was surprised its a cardboard model kit. Question is what type of glue do I use to put this together. I haven't a glue !!
You can always start out with the glue we used back in kindergarten. Elmer's white glue. It taste good, makes for great sticky fingers but isn't much good at sticking anything down permanently. Then there's Elmer's Wood Glue. A giant step forward in the right direction. Gorilla Glue, various assortment of hobby wood glues including my favorite the Zap A Gap cyanoacrlate's. My suggestion is you try a few and see how they work out. Practice with some junk and see what works best for you.
If there are some scrap pieces in the kit, where you break out the walls, etc, take those scraps and use them for testing glues. My first choice would be the Elmer's white, followed by the yellow.
In rocketry we use what's called the "double glue joint" with white or yellow glue. Lay a thin bead of glue then press the two parts together, then take them apart again. When the glue is almost dry, lay a second bead and then permanently press the parts together. The joint will be stronger than the materials joined. This only works for wood and wood-based products like cardboard. My main problem with Gorilla Glue is that it expands slightly when curing, which can push the parts out of alignment.
I use a lot of different methods on my layout. If you are looking to use a certain glue for ballast, I recommend Woodland Scenics Scenic Cement, but if you use it, make sure to use a spray can with a decently accurate spray. For gluing kits, I use gorilla glue.
