It would take a long time to accumulate enough money for the track in Tomball using only money from the car lease. We are pursuing some major grant money for that project. How fat is your checking account?
Here is an old Santa Fe Horse Express car that belongs to the Austin Steam Train group and run on the Hill Country Flyer. When Santa Fe used it in MOW service they plated over 4 of the side doors.
Tacoma Rail 3000 at the shops in Tacoma with some various other units, along with a BNSF visitor. 5/14/16
Thanks for the photos Kurt! A fine looking line. Thanks too for noting the location and date, as it helps me to understand exactly what I'm seeing. I don't always keep current on rail news, so these details help.
Former USAF Baldwin RS-4-TC now operated by the South Carolina Railroad Museum (SCRM) in Rockton, SC, taken 05/07/2016. It has a Caterpillar diesel under the hood. The line was once the 12 Mile Rockton & Rion Rwy., built in 1897 to haul aggregate and granite. It ran steam into the early '7os and was shut in 1981. Thankfully, the line was donated to the SCRM and is once again operable over its entire length.
I sure remember those older engine colors. Also, that caboose could be seen at that location for what seemed like a long time.
I was driving through Sanbornville , NH and noticed a small sign saying turntable Park. I turned in and behind the bushes was this View attachment 172470
I have 1 more picture. only other thing I know about the area. Sanbornville is 1 of 4 towns called Wakefield
Sanbornville was a station on the B&M Conway (NH) Branch between Portsmouth and North Conway. Sanbornville also was the interchange with the 12-mile long Wolfeboro Railroad. The B&M maintained a small yard at Sanbornville, so this may have been the original reason for the turntable. Personally, I think it's wonderful that the locals had the vision to keep the turntable when the Wolfeboro Railroad was converted to Rails-to-Trails.
New Hampshire's political geography is organized as State/County/Township/Village. Consequently Sanbornville is a community (Village) within Wakefield Township, in Carroll County. Note that Wakefield is also a Village in Wakefield Township. There may be other communities in Wakefield Township that I'm unaware of.
